Iverson has struggled to be nice, Rip just starting to find his shots, even when he does the Pistons lose to Wizards. Tayshaun at the 4? Stuckey doesn't appear to be ready just yet. Curry appears to be over his head. In the meanwhile, Chauncey is playing great, and the Nuggets are winning.
Its still early, but I think this deal does 3 things:
1) Shows how valuable Chauncey can be to the right team. He is one of the really good, true point guards in the leauge. He just knows how to run a team, how to win. Without him the Pistons don't win the ship (obviously),and, IMO, don't make a single conference final. This guy is a great player.
2) Remove the Pistons from the elite. With Chauncey, the Pistons still have an outside shot at a championship, without him, they are either losing by 28 to wolves or blowing 17 point leads to the Wizards. This just is not a good team right now.
3) Raises the question, is Joe D really the GM wunderkid so many people are making him out to be? I mean the guy has received a free pass for choosing Darko over 3 legit franchise players (Melo, Wade, Bosh). He turns it into Stuckey, who somehow becomes the franchise savior. The kid is good, but the Piston camp is trying to hype him and Amir as future HOFers. Amir can't play a minute w/o getting a foul and at this point Stuckey needs to be a franchise player to legitimize a lot that has gone on in Detroit. Joe was praised for opening up salary for the 2009 and 2010 haul, but outside signing DWade, Bosh or LeBron it seems to be a waste of cap space, and does anyone legitimately think any one of those three will come to the Pistons?
