Im glad we dont have an idiot GM. Kerr and MJ should not even be running the washer let alone a NBA franchise. MJ comes close to Isiah Thomas...Truth is...This trade will not help anyone unless Jrich decides to play defense.

Thomas is great at drafting though. Imagine the damage MJ would have done if he had inhereted a bloated cap and aging veterans.Comment

Re: HAHAHAHA Cats trade J-Rich to Suns for Diaw/Bell
At second glance this DJ Augustin kid is the real deal...The best Charlotte could've hoped for this year is the 8th seed in the playoffs w/ a 1st rd exit.
So why is moving J-Rich and getting in return a savvy veteran like Bell, and a versatile big like Diaw so bad.
Phoenix is constructed to win now w/ ol' Shaq and Nash. So adding a swingman who can slash and get to the line helps them out in the short-term - for a last hope of a ring with these 'out the door' soon superstars.
Getting a solid block of playing time for Augustine in his rookie yr is a great move.
Plus May's future is uncertain, and he has been a large disappointment, literally and figuratively.
At least w/ Diaw they get someone under contract who the book shouldn't be closed on...he's only 26 and can still rebound his career.
I know MJ is the VP or Pres. of ops for CHA, but Larry Brown is a proven winner and he wasn't really too high on J-Rich anyways.
I trust Brown, and he will get more out of this team now then he would've if they had not made this deal.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: HAHAHAHA Cats trade J-Rich to Suns for Diaw/Bell
I think a lot of people who are not so ecstatic about this trade on the Suns' end are forgetting what J-Rich can do with other weapons around him. Now that he doesn't have to be the man, I'm expecting the team to get a huge jumpstart.
Putting the defensive aspect aside for a second, this is going to be a deadly team offensively.
The floor will finally be opened up for Amare, and Nash to run their pick and rolls. Grant Hill is looking pretty nice this year from midrange too.
Defensively they still have Shaq and Barnes and people [maybe not here] who have been crying about trading away Bell's defense act as if Bell is still a shutdown defender.. I'm not buying that.
Diaw is done mentally. I wouldn't want him anywhere NEAR my rotation in crunchtime later in the playoffs. J-Rich is as clutch as they come.
Depth will still be their downfall. The deal had to be done if you're the Suns. You're getting a terrible contract in return, but it's equal to Bell's and Diaw's year and salary wise so that's a wash.
I think the Suns might be back in the mix.Comment

Re: HAHAHAHA Cats trade J-Rich to Suns for Diaw/Bell
late to this thread, but......
this deal doesn't do much for either team. Jason Richardson is the answer for the Suns? No, they are no more of a contender now than they were before the trade, still not beating down the top guns in the West.
For the Cats? Well they already sucked, so this can't hurt them too badly. Richardson for Diaw and Bell is alright, I just don't understand giving up Dudley and a 2nd. Really not too terrible for them though, because Diaw is young and adds a lot of athleticism and Richardson certainly wasn't making them a contender. Bell is a Larry Brown type of guy and can hopefully instill some defense in Felton and Augustin.
Charlotte never should have traded for Richardson in the first place. They gave up a bright future in Wright to attempt to grab an 8 seed in the playoffs and failed.
JRich isn't the superstar that people think he is anymore IMO anyway. He should have been taking over games for CHA but disappeared far, far too often.Comment

The move doesn't make them worse but might not make them better either.
We'll find out by seasons end, but I contend that they needed a slashing SG since JJ left the team, and I stand by that... in this sense they did well.
Either way the team is not improving more than it is being re-tooled because as it stood wasn't going to do anything no matter if Marion was there or not.
They were deflated after that last Spurs series and it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that they would be like Dallas is right now mentally had they kept the same team in tact.
Jury is out like it is with ShaqComment

Re: HAHAHAHA Cats trade J-Rich to Suns for Diaw/Bell
Shaq and Barnes are still solid defenders. Of course their team defense isn't anything to brag about, but come playoff time you stick Barnes on Kobe/Melo/Roy.. and you still have a big fella down low who can push bigs out of the paint.
J-Rich has hit some huge shots, most of which came in that magical playoff run they had a couple years back. When he isn't the man, he has proved to be pretty deadly.
As far as the Suns being more deadly than the elite in the West, no, I didn't claim much. I just think they're back in the mix at the very least.
Elite out West:
Spurs.Lakers. Hornets
The Suns are as good as all of the other teams not listed.
I realize since Matrix was traded away they've gone backwards. Like I said in my post a while back, the Suns team is now a contrast of the Suns of old and new. They can spread the floor, but still have a lowpost presence on offense and defense in Shaq.Comment

Re: HAHAHAHA Cats trade J-Rich to Suns for Diaw/Bell
Ex,
I judge the Suns by championship standards, since I know that's their immediate goal. I think we both agree that they aren't in the championship mix. I think they'll be a better regular season team, but the playoffs might be a sad time for them.
And I'm not saying you claimed their offense would be deadlier than the elite in the West, but if you're making a trade to get much worse defensively, you can't break even on offense.
When you talk about Suns defense, they are going to see a LOT of pick and roll in NO, SA and Utah before they even get the chance to test out (snicker) Barnes on Kobe. This trade makes those matchups tougher for them.Comment
