Melo Ties Most Points in a Quarter Record

33 points in the 3rd quarter last night!!!

Ties George Gervin's record set in April of 1978.

Games like this probably makes Joe Dumars lose a lot of sleep.

Talk about Nuggets finally getting a real pg. It seems that is all what they needed. Let's not forget they won 50 games last season. They are on a good pace for a repeat.

WOW 33 in a quarter...... something Lebron, Kobe, or even Jordan didn't do. That's pretty impressive.

edit: I was wondering why a Spur fan posted this until I realized the Gervin plug hehe

Re: Melo Ties Most Points in a Quarter Record

Yeah, he also broke the Nuggets record which was set in '78 when David Thompson poured in 32 in the 1st quarter before finishing with 73 for the game.

Melo always gets smothered by teams when he gets near 50 -- they just refuse to let him get that milestone. Haha, since the games where he scores that much are generally blowouts, they just send 3 or 4 guys at him to keep him from scoring and give up baskets to someone else. The Wizards did it last year when he had 49 also and he was never able to get a shot off.

Great for Melo. He hasn't been playing well during the start of the season.

Re: Melo Ties Most Points in a Quarter Record

Thanks for the article.. that's crazy.

                            Cool bits:

"It's also fun to see what impact the quarter had on his season stats. Anthony entered the quarter shooting 40.7 percent from the floor and left it at 42.4 percent. He began the quarter averaging 23.0 points per 40 minutes and ended it averaging 24.5. He scored 8 percent of his season total in the quarter."

"Moreover, this game wasn't a circus. Gervin's 33-point quarter and David Thompson's second-place, 32-point effort both came on April 9, 1978 -- when the duo battled for the scoring title on the last day of the season against apathetic opponents. Melo's quarter came with his team trailing by a dozen and needing to rally to win. Gervin's came in a 153-132 squeaker.

                            Melo's Feat: 25 points in 13 trips

7:15 Anthony free throws (2 points, 1 trip)
                            6:28 Anthony 3-pointer (5 points, 2 trips)
5:52 Anthony free throw (6 points, 3 trip)
                            5:28 Anthony lay-yup (8 points, 4 trips)
                            4:52 Anthony 3-pointer (11 points, 5 trips)
                            4:35 Anthony dunk (13 points, 6 trips)
                            4:01 Balkman miss (13 points, 7 trips)
                            3:34 Anthony jumper (15 points, 8 trips)
                            3:09 Anthony 3-pointer (18 points, 9 trips)
                            2:29 Anthony jumper (20 points, 10 trips)
                            1:57 Anthony jumper (22 points, 11 trips)
1:22 Billups free throws (22 points, 12 trips)
                            0:52 Anthony 3-pointer (25 points, 13 trips)

And if Anthony's 33-point quarter is a record, then what can we possibly say about the 6:23 stretch toward the end when he scored 25 points in just 13 Nuggets possessions (see sidebar)? For that stretch, Melo's personal offensive efficiency rating was nearly 200. At that rate, in a 48-minute game he would have scored 184 points."
