Who just saw the Outside the Lines thing with Josh Childress?

My God he's livin the life out there. I know there was a bunch of chatter in the Summer about this, but to actually see what he's been doing out there was eye-opening.

As has been mentioned several times:
-3 year, 20 mill contract, AFTER taxes
-Paid 3-story apartment with baller pool, paid car, paid maid service
    -Can opt out this Summer

The man's treated like a Greek God over there.. more free-spirit role players need to go over there to get that $ and Euro women.

Stars would never go IMO. You should have seen some of the competition and TINY gyms Childress' team played in. I'm talkin like Jr. High size courts SMH

More and more players are going overseas and getting better money/lifesyle. You will see some more high profile players going soon enough. Players used to end their careers overseas, some teams had 2 USA player limits. A long time ago I was playing with James Bailey (Jammin' James, Rutgers, Knick, etc.) and he told me he and Russ Schoene (poor mans Tom Chambers) were on a team together overseas and he really enjoyed it.

I think the schedule is easier over there too, you can save a lot of wear and tear on your body and make great money. If the NBA starts losing star players it will put pressure on the salary cap.

Rich live like the rich and poor live like they poor everywhere.

I don't think the overseas leagues will be doing much more of this.

          Seriously.

At the most, the Euros might manage to pull the worst starter on a team.

However, the NBA is importing far better Euros than the Euros have imported from the NBA. We're losing 6th men; they're losing league MVPs.

From what I understand, there are only a couple of Steinbrenners who can afford to pay that exorbitant price for players. They have much smaller gyms & shorter seasons. This is not going to be a trend. Kobe & James are staying in the USA. Kobe may do a Pele/Beckham thing when he's 40, but that's the extent of it.

The stars going overseas isn't even a debate.

Europe is way more laidback than the US and even when people dont make as much they find time to enjoy their lives. Its a different culture that's all I'm pointing out

You should also note that each country there is different. Spain is different to Italy...Germany different to France. There is no "European culture".

Lifestyle is amazing though. As it is in many countries.

I've lived in quite a few different countries all around the world and I'd encourage anyone to do the same. You've never really seen 'life' until you see how different it is through other people's eyes.

For role players in the league like Childress this has to be an attractive option. The shorter season which = less wear and tear on a players body has to be a main draw card imo.

If they can earn 5 mil per and only have to play a 30 game season as opposed to having to play a 82 game season for the same money i know which one i'd choose.

                      Good post

As a 'Euro' , I can say that Greece is a great place to live and play basketball... Good food, great weather, nice lifestyle

Unlike in the US, every country here has some great food !( except the UK :s ) and we got different cultures... In the US, y'all don't have any culture and no decent food too... But I've been in the US (Chicago, Milwaukee)... I've got to say that americans are friendly

I have a family member that plays in Italy and he loves it. He says just playing on the weekends allows him to basically feel 100% during everygame and you can go all out.

The United States exports more culture than any other state by the widest of margins.

US is a melting pot man. So many different nationalities and cultures. I had great time in Cali and Nevada a few years ago.

Depends on how much it sets them up for future opportunity to make more money though. NBA is bigger than those leagues so star players won't have any reason to head overseas. They'd lose money because their endorsements wouldn't be as beneficial over there. The exposure would help the league more than it would help them.

Melting pot that still has rust spots up and through. Yeah we're a melting pot. There's still a lot of oil and water in the pot though.
