Re: how can they make the nba telecasts better.

    this is simple
    1) 20 yr old college students are louder and willing to get crazier in order to give their team that edge on their homecourt than 40 yr old season ticket holders that sit up front.

    2) college arenas are generally smaller therefore making them louder and fans are closer to the court.

3)overall more emotion, kids are more intense and most of them are playing for the pure love of the game so you see alot more hussle.

4)in college their are greater rivalries b/c of location, etc. so the games mean alot b/c of bragging rights.

I dont think it has anything to do with the announcers, just the nature of the college game. There are only like 30 games for each team so naturally the average college game means more than the average nba game.

I think the NBA games were much more exciting when they were on NBC. now that they are on ESPN and ABC, i just dont get that feeling for the atmosphere anymore. its probably just me??

Pol interesting commentary theory. I don't know why you had to come up with it when Musberger was announcing. He's long been known to be one of the driest, most boring announcers on the face of the planet. (tho he's good at College Football) If you listen to Raptors games with Chuck Swirsky and Leo Routins you'd be far more entertained.

As another poster said the ABC/ESPN style is a bit too staid for basketball. I used to love watching the games on NBC. There was a lot of excitement and the camera angles were generally a lot better too! The thing about NBC that gave even a regular season game the "big game" feel was the video package before games. To me, that always got me pumped up especially with Costas' voice over.

As for fans, I agree that there are too many rich, quiet folks up front but some arenas are quite loud when the games are exciting. Mostly arenas in the west however the ACC, MSG, FU Center can be pretty noisy at times.

One of my alltime dreams would be for them to simply have a camera angle from a few select seats in the stadium that you can switch between with a flicker and no commentary, just the in stadium atmosphere.

                    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Sky Sports in England does this with their broadcasts for select soccer games. They have 10 or so cameras located throughout the stadium. Viewers can switch between the cameras at their will using their remote. I saw this a year ago when I was over there and was just floored.

Next, get the games off of ESPN and ABC!!! I'm sorry guys, you just don't cut it at all! Just because you play some hip music on the way to commercial, doesn't mean that you all are doing your job well.

ESPN could hire me, that would make it more interesting. Or better yet, hire Skilz.
