some observations on 2k3 vs id

so nba 2k3 is finally out in europe. having played just a couple of games, a few things jump out.
    - the default camera angle for 2k3 is horrible, but this is easily rectified.
    - some of animations, particularly dribbling, look rather dodgy. have to say i think i prefer id.
    - the stadiums look and sound wonderful.
    - the espn coverage is slick, but can't help preferring the commentary on id.
    - default slider settings are awful. having read a lot about them here i'd assumed people were over stating their importance - they weren't.
    - initially gameplay response seems better on id.
    - the franchise setting looks fun.
    - where on earth are the recent roster downloads?
    - have bottled playing online until i can ensure i don't totally embarrass myself.
all in all, i think i'm a little disappointed. maybe the step from live to id last year spoilt me. still, once i know what i'm doing, i've got a feeling the online aspect to 2k3 will leave id abandoned.

    Glad you finally got it.

At least you can go straight to the sliders / fast break / crash board / set double teams / set team tempos's fixes that the game needs

As you've played ID a lot, you'll also realise pretty quickly that that game has a lot (and I mean a LOT) more plays. You won't see cutters or guys shooting off screen like you do in ID.

Stadiums, as you said, are brilliant.

Really hope they can add more / real play sets next year...the game would rock.

        Online play sucks.

I played it maybe 3 times last year.

if the gameplay isnt there, what makes you think the gameplay will be there for online play?

It may be fun for awhile but when the cheating and pausing start, adding that to the lackluster defense, the game becomes trash, IMO.

Slum, I know you've waited ages...so go straight to the slider and settings fixes and do your best to enjoy it.

Wally is pretty close to the mark though...there are flaws.

Re: some observations on 2k3 vs id

The game is great as a short term "fun time" experiement.

Just like a new pair of shoes, they can wear down in a few months.

                    But i'll make this analogy.
Nba 2k3's gameplay is like Payless Shoe source's 5 dollar shoes. The first few hours and weeks are great. but after 3 weeks of rough 5 hour a day playground, in the dirt, play, they wear down and it becomes crap. "the game becomes too easy and too scripted after a number of games".

But ID's gameplay is like the Converse, buy one get one free deal, for 50 dollars, but you get 2 pairs of shoes. The gameplay isnt quiet there, and your "shoes" seems rough and stiff at first (the gameplay is different. its unlike anyother nba game), but once you get started you break into the "shoes" (game}, and everything becomes so fluid and "nba gameplay like" that you get so used to it, the "shoes" can last you for up to 4-5 months of constant play.

hope you get my shoe to game analogy.

TRUE!!!!!!! But if you get the right sliders and play it like a real NBA game, 2k3 can be just as fun. PLUS with great presentation. I don't think the game play is as good as inside drive but, with the right sliders the game can be really enjoyable.

ouch - up until now it seemed everything i'd read seemed split 50/50 between id and 2k3. now 2k3 turns up in europe and suddenly everyone seems to prefer id.
and monkey - thanks for keeping an eye out. if you're on xbl, maybe you can school me on the finer points sometime.
