Rings or Respect What would you want.?
You know how people always say that Phil Jackson is not a good coach even though he had a team win 72 games and can be winning his 10 NBA title, cuase he has had the two most dominanting players of the time. Jordan and Shaq (sorry Kobe fans). He is a good coach I think he had the best gameplan against Shaq (in Orlando) I ever saw. I bet though if u ask him would he rather the rings or coach of the year he wouldn't trade. This also got me to thinking about MVP. In my opinion Shaq gives Kobe a advantage over other superstars which hurts his individual acclaim. That being said after the offensive output 9 40 point games numerous 30 point or more games if he doesn't win it this year he won't Win MVP with Shaq as a teammate. He will have to move on or Shaq retire if he wants MVP cause after a year like this (though there are other legitimate contenders KG Tmac Tim Big Fundamentals Duncan ) I can't really see him winning it with Shaq if he doesn't get it now. Playing with or coaching Dominate players might get u a ring and sometimes u don't get that (ask Stockton about playing with Malone) but u don't always get the respect you deserveTags: None -

Phil Doesn't get respect as a Great Coach. Matter of fact now that I think about it Jerry Sloan nor Greg Popivich ever wins either and they have good teams Sloan has Malone considered the best PF ever and TImmy is the best all around big man right now. Great Players hurt Coaches chances at winning coach of the yearComment

So I guess Stockton and Malone don't get lots of respect eh? Personally I think i'd rather have respect but after a long career i'd trade away all my accomplishments for a Ring.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

I`d have to disagree with that.
I championship is just that. A trophy.
Charles Barkley is one of the most respected players for what he brought to the floor night in and night out. The same can be said for Stockton and Malone.
Players realize that sometimes a great player`s supporting cast is not up to par and that`s the main reason for their lack of championships.Comment

Honestly, if Jordan never won ANY titles...he wouldn't be considered one of or the BEST ever.

Maybe not the best ever, but without a doubt one of the best ever. The guy would be top 5, rings or no rings. It's too bad everyone judges greatness by championships. Elway never got the true respect he deserved until he won a Super Bowl. Like somebody said earlier, a guys supporting cast can sometimes cast a shadow over a players greatness. Lets say Shaq and Kobe never hook up, and Shaq ends up playing with scrubs his whole career. Does he still go down as one of the best ever? To a man, we would have to say yes. When it comes to coaches, those with great players never seem to get the respect they deserve. The coach of the year award always seems to go to some guys whos team overachieved. To me that's a bunch of BS. Consider the things that Jackson had to deal with this year, or even Adleman leading an injury plagued team to 59 wins. But those teams were supposed to be good, so why should they be considered for such an award?Comment
