Players\Situations that pretty much caused rule changes in the league...

    How many can you name?

I remember Mark Jacksons habit of backing all the way from half court cause that new backing down rule to be made lol

There was AI's crossover that brought about carrying rules...

    what else?

Most Obvious one(or at least one that I remember right now): Lebron's Crab Dribble.

pat riley and van gundy's 90s teams [heat, knicks] started the slow down physically defensive gameplans that caused the nba to get rid of handchecking to limit the impact of D, and raise the scoring averages. the nba also implemented the 3 secs in the paint for defensive players rule.

can you imagine the offensive numbers jordan wouldve got in todays nba???

It is far more difficult individually to score a lot of points against a zone defense. The whole team can collapse on you in a heartbeat... Just watch that Youtube vid of Kobe going against the Celtic defense in the Finals... The handchecking thingy, you're right about that...

But the defense we see nowadays, is far more advanced then back in the day...

A zone defense can collapse on a single player, but that's where ball movement comes in. A zone can't collapse on a whole team and with proper ball movement an open shot can be found quite easily. Any time a zone keys on a player, it is easy to find the open player.

Back in the day they played physical defense. They can't even touch ball handlers with their hands now. They used to get hammered when they came into the paint. Free throws used to be paid for in advance. Now they're just given for free.

John 3:20. Say no to normal.

you can only back down for 5 seconds then you have to shoot or pass...kinda like the 5 second closely guarded rule in NCAA Hoops, except that it only applies when you are backing a guy down...

it wasnt only Mark Jax that caused it; it was Barkley too

Hardaway was the real master of the crossover. AI's should have been illegal.

When Wilt was on Kansas, they used to run out-of-bounds plays from the baseline where they would lob the ball over the backboard and he would dunk it. They had to ban that.

Ewing picking up his dribble outside of the lane on one side and taking four steps and putting up a running hook from the opposite block w/o dribbling.

The first person that I seen do that move the most(or most recent)was Chauncey Billups in the 04 Playoffs.

Depending where on the court he was at,p eople would play him to the sideline and then he would just catch anybody with the pump fake, lean into them and get the 3 point play. He used to crack me up with that because you'd know WHEN he was gonna do it but yet he would still catch folks with it lol.
