Better All Around Player = Better Player?

This was sparked by a topic I saw an another forum.......2 comparable players, I'll use Reggie Miller and Mitch Richmond.......Some people were arguing that Mitch is better because he's the better all around player........But, I think that Reggie is better because he accomplished more on the court......

Thats just one example but they used many others......What do you guys think?

    Hakeem > Shaq?
    Lebron > Kobe?

Is Pippen actually better than his top 50 ranking already suggests?
    Pippen > Wilkins?

I never thought of Wilkins as such a great player. I mean, he was a great scorer and a dunking machine but I can't say he's one of the greatests.

I ****ing hate Scottie Pippen but I would take him over Wilkins. Hakeem is a no brainer over Shaq for me, Dream was the best center I've personally ever seen.

the more things you can do on the court, the more valuable you are... i'd rather take a guy averaging 17 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assist over a guy averaging 25 points 6 rebounds 2 assist... in my opinion defense is over rated... there are not many great defenders in the nba, but it's because this is the best talent in the world... i mean who can really stop any of the leagues top scorers? no one, they might have a bad night but you are not gonna stop them, that's why they are who they are... defense is a team thing in my opinion... people love to say oh who cares if kevin durant averages 26 points he cant play d, or who cares what chris bosh does on the offensive end he dont play d, to me that is stupid...

Miller vs Ritchmond? Lets see: Ritchmond was a better individual defender by default because Miller didnt play much defense to begin with. Richmond was a much better rebounder in a scrum. Miller was a better 3 point shooter and could shoot better off the catch. Richmond was better at creating his own shot and shooting off the dribble. Both players were terrific clutch free throw shooters (and free throw shooters in general) but Miller gets the slight edge here.

Richmond gets the edge in passing abilities. Finally, Richmond was capable of making big shots but Miller was one of the most deadly shooters of all time in win or lose situations (big edge for Reggie). I would give the ever so slight edge to Miller because of his prolific point making in clutch situations. Both players deserve serious consideration for the Hall of Fame though.

Dominique was a dynamite scorer who could power his way to the hoop. However, his jump shot was mostly erratic, he played merely average defense, he was an okay rebounder, he was a mediocre passer, and he was an awful ball handler. He really was a superb and clutch scorer though and that is what made him a Hall of Famer.

Scottie Pippen was a better player than Dominique was. Pip was a versatile and fail safe scorer. He gets a big edge in defense though. He could play lock down defense against forwards, shooting guards, and point guards. He also completely mastered the triangle offense. He was the leader on the defensive side of the ball for the Bulls. His elite defense is what pushes him above Wilkins and makes him a top 25 player of all time.

marion, he has double the rebounds, quadruple the blocks, double the steals, less than half the turnovers, and shoots higher percentages from the field and from 3..

but melo gives you that go to guy, marion is not a go to guy... if i'm looking for someone to be the man on my team on offense im going to pick melo, but marion had the better overall season in terms of production...
