    Re: Rick Adelman...

What he did with Seattle in his last year and now Portland? Your argument did little to sway me

Also he had a plethora of problems to work through after coming to Portland. People were saying he was crazy to leave Seattle

Nate had one good year in Seattle when Ray was in a contract year and playing his best ball. After that he saw the writing on the wall in regards to the team moving and becoming a cellar dwellar. He should be nowhere near the Top 5 current NBA coaches. Hell, Byron Scott has accomplished way more than he has and everyone knows his true colors.

Scott's players have never compared to Nate's. I respect Scott so I don't know what you mean by true colors, if anything Jason Kidd showed his true colors.

Anyway back to Nate, if I would have told you Portland was going to be a top 4 seed coming into this year I'm sure people would tell me they weren't ready yet, were too young or whatever.

Nate's bunch even in Seattle always played the right way and it's been very evident to someone who has paid close attention to both Seattle and Portland [them being my second and third favorite teams].

Nate coming Portland amidst all of their past is something to behold.

I don't see how someone could say "he's nowhere near top 5". Sure he may not be in your top 5, but to say he isn't top 10 would lead me to believe something negative about that person.

Nate had 2 All-Stars in Seattle so you can't say that he didn't have talent. Still, he only had 1 winning year (04-05).

Portland was good this year but they're division was also the worst in the West. Utah's 2 best players missed significant time. Minnesota was horrible and lost their best player. OK City was worse than Minnesota. Denver was solid post Billups trade but before that they were a mess. It still boils down to the fact that Nate has only 1 playoff series win.

Playing the game right means nothing unless it translates into wins. Nate is a good young coach and it looks like he has a solid foundation built in Portland but his accomplishments do not warrant him being in the Top 5 of current NBA coaches.

The fact you had him over 3 proven winners in Larry Brown who has taken multiple teams to the playoffs (Spurs, CLIPPERS, Pacers, 76ers, Pistons), George Karl (Sonics, Bucks, and now Nugs), and Phil Jackson is laughable.

This is here and now, my top 5 was for today not career wise.

Phil Jackson has showed me plenty of times that he's not in tune with his team at this point.

Larry Brown and George Karl got love from me, if by putting them at 6 and 7 instead of 4 and 5 is laughable, then jokes on me I guess.

You said Nate isn't anywhere near being top 5 I'm interested to see where you'd put him. Like I said it's fine if you don't think he's top 5 but it seemed like a gross exaggeration to say he's nowhere near it.

Ranking coaches is so hard...Unless someone has Sam Mitchell in their top 5, it is really hard to argue because there are so many factors like talent, opposition etc.

I'd put him in that 2nd tier of coaches that has much more to prove to be considered elite which is what "Top 5" should be.
