Points Created Formula

I came up with a pretty legitimate and accurate POINTS CREATED Formula for an individual stat in the NBA. This tells how many point each player gives to his team each night and not just on Points put in the basket, there is a lot of other factors.

I did it like this:

PPG
+ APG x 2.2 (it is x by 2.2 b/c 1/5 of shots scored are usually 3's... so 1/5 of your assists should count as 3's)
+ OffReb/G x FG% x 3.3 (When getting an offensive rebound, you just gained another chance to score and took away a potential avg. of 1.1 point away from your opponent)
+ SPG x 2.4 (Stealing the ball takes away a potential score from your opponent and is easier than making a reg. shot off a steal, cause a lot of steal lead to fastbreaks)
+ BPG x 2.1 (Blocks are worth less than steals b/c a lot of block shots are rebounded by the opponent anyway, but it is harder to score on a almost expired shot clock)
+ DefReb x 1.5 (you can figure it out now)
- FGmissed/G x .65 (Missing shots takes away a potential 1.1 from your teammate but there is always chance for an Off. Reb or a miss at the other end which is why its only worth .65.)
- FPG x 1.8 (Plain and simple, fouling a guy either sends him to the line or gets your team closer to the penalty which results in 1.8 of FT's made - on avg. -)
- TO/G x 2.2

These aren't made to be exact... its more like an estimate (a very accurate estimate)... I used it on 3 players so far from the results from last year:

Tim Duncan : 42.4 PC per game ... 51.8 PC per 48 min.
Kobe Bryant : 39.3 PC per game ... 45.5 PC per 48 min.
Stephen Jackson: 13.7 PC per game ... 23.3 PC per 48 min.

This also means that say I traded Timmy D for Kobe... I would get about 3 to 5 less points per game for my team... and can you imagine trading Stephen Jackson for Kobe... it would be a dream... but thats why it would never happen!

TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK... and I will post more players soon!

How does this sound?

PERFORM RAT /G
PERFORM RAT /M
OLD PERFORM RAT /G
OLD PERFORM RAT /M

The "performance rating" is a single number used to measure a player's overall individual statistical performance, i.e. his
total statistical contribution to his team. It is determined by adding up all of the "positive" things a player is measured for
statistically and subtracting off all of the "negative" things.

The performance rating is calculated by:

performance pts = pts + reb + ast + st + bs - FGmissed - FTmissed - to - pf

where
+ pts = points scored = (2)x(2PT FGM)+(3)x(3PT FGM)+(FTM)
+ reb = total rebounds
+ ast = assists
+ st = steals
+ bs = blocked shots
- FGmissed = field goals (shots) missed
- FTmissed = free throws (foul shots) missed
- to = turnovers
- pf = personal fouls committed

performance points per minute = (pts + reb + ast + st + bs - to - FGmissed - FTmissed - pf)/minutes

performance points per game = (pts + reb + ast + st + bs - to - FGmissed - FTmissed - pf)/games

This performance rating is useful when comparing how players perform from one season to the next but with varying teammates,
i.e. did a player's "performance" change from year to year (improve or get worse) with the addition of new teammates and why.

Note that this rating is NOT all inclusive in that it does not measure a player's defensive ability other than blocked shots
and steals. i.e. it does not take into consideration a player's defensive ability to decrease or increase the FG% of the players
he guards or his ability to deny an offensive player the ball.
[/i]
