In my opinion, I detest the rules. I understand what the league is getting at with the 7 technical foul limit, but like Chuck (or was it Kenny?) said, where did they get the number 7 from? It has no significance, it must be made up. Maybe it has to do with the number of games in a series.
Also, JVG mentioned tonight that it only penalizes the teams that advance further in the playoffs, which is completely true. It's common sense/math that the longer you play, the more likely you are to pick up an additional T. Another unfair rule.
And then there's the business of rescinding technical fouls. It's good in principal, along with flagrant fouls, for the league to review. But should the league over rule the current referee crew on the court that decides what's a T and what isn't? And they also have the ability to review in the game. I'm not sure if they consult the monitors for Ts, but I know they do for flagrants.
And the biggest issue I have with it is rescinding the T itself, but that having no effect on the game. The game penalty of a technical foul is a freethrow for the other team. So let's take Dwight's T last night for example. Mo Williams goes and knocks the FT down, Cleveland gets a free point. What else happens? Lo and behold, the game goes to overtime because it is tied. That one point makes a world of difference. But when you rescind the foul, you don't rescind the point.
So what they need to rescind the rules themselves. Every player on the court knows dang well how important every point is and most kick themselves after the game after getting one. I think the current consequences are enough.
