Re: Why is shaq giving Dwight no respect man???
No disrespect, but a few people here have no idea what Dwight is going through. When you start off doing something from a young age, and you are the only person in the area with the talent to do that thing, you tend to identify with people who are successful in that field. Then you spend countless hours improving and honing your talent. Then finally, as an adult, you are able to do that thing and meet and compete with that hero.
Then the guy is a jerk and puts you down out of fear and jealousy. Nothing wrong with being disappointed in that situation. Dwight was a little kid watching Shaq on TV. Even though it's not macho or cool to say so, it hurts to not have that hero live up to what you thought he was.
On the flip side, it's awesome when that hero is all that you thought he was, and more. Thankfully, there's Kareem, and Ewing, and Bill Russell out there holding it down for young big men.Comment

One day I hope one these greats that have better legend status than Shaq will call him out for his immaturity and for once, he won't have nothing to say.Comment

Re: Why is shaq giving Dwight no respect man???
Maybe I'm a bit more attuned to this at my age but losing a step and having your youth fade away is tough.
Doing it on a INTERNATIONAL stage must be brutal.
I don't disagree that their is a better way for Shaq to handle it but I can cut him some slack for being human, a talented one but still a flawed human.Comment

+1
I actually think Dwight will be better than Shaq eventually. He REALLY needs to develop the outside shot that Shaq never developed.Fulham FC...Showin' em love.

That's pretty crazy.
I know Howard is young, but at this point in time, he's not even close to where Shaq was at the same age.
Shaq didn't develop the outside shot because it would have been a detriment to his scoring and the team's success.Comment

Im glad Dwight usually says the right things in response. You can hear in his voice that this bothers him, kudos to him for taking the high road.
I bet any amount of money Shaq will give hime a big hug or some other grandiose gesture at some point before he retires tho. He's jealous and hurt because he's still playing, but I don't think he'll leave us with the image of being a bitter old fart when its time to hang it up.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: Why is shaq giving Dwight no respect man???
Yep. Shaq was a much better player at the same age. Completely dominant, unstoppable force. Dwight Howard catching oops and vertically dunking is nice, but his post skills are laughable. Shaq's footwork, hands and quickness are what makes him a better player than Dwight.Comment

Re: Why is shaq giving Dwight no respect man???
The amazing thing is that Shaq never really had an amazing array of post moves either, it's just that his spin and drop stop were so damn powerful and QUICK that it was unstoppable. He was never pulling out multiple pivot moves because he didn't need to, which is also why he's looked pretty damn awkward in the twilight of his career when trying to do certain post moves.
Howard isn't even on the same planet in terms of quickness when compared to a young Shaq."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier
