    2011 NBA All-Star Game Goes to L.A.

Apparently, as in 2004, the Lakers will host again (Clippers who?).

    Story

It continues a string of 8 straight ASWs in the Western Conference. The string began in 2004 with Los Angeles, and hopefully LA is where it will end.

7 years difference between an All-Star game location?

Why not Miami or even Orlando. I know the Magic had there's in the early 90's, but it would be a good way to bring in the new arena...

I'm guessing it depends on which teams actually make bids...I know Toronto is dying to host one, but apparently every year at the same time of the All-Star game there is a huge car show at the ACC.

Such a shame that it can't be held nowhere else besides L.A. Orlando or Miami seem nice.

it seems that both basketball and football use the same few cities every year. It just has to do with the money. Where the biggest profits are is where they do. ITs pretty easy to figure that out.

Why? You figure nobody wants to go to about a third of the NBA cities, and LA has two teams.

Pretend that a few years ago it was the Lakers and now it's the Clippers

Not true. Like MLB, the NBA used to alternate the cities between conferences, and every city is applicable. Now MLB follows the new stadiums (or old ones, like Yankee Stadium last year), which gives every city a chance regardless of their fan base, weather, or team strength.

The NFL just does Honolulu for the Pro Bowl, and for the Super Bowl, they have some very specific requirements. For example, the temperature has to be at least 56 degrees F. or, in the case of a dome, temperature controlled to be higher than that. This immediately writes off cold-weather cities.

The NBA just picks it based on where Stern wants to vacation, I think. The fact that they play indoors should write off any concerns about cold-weather cities, and just as much revenue would be generated in Toronto than in Los Angeles.

I guess I care because it's exclusionary to so many other hard-working NBA cities, and at this rate, I'll never be able to see an All-Star Weekend for myself.

it's obvious by sterns press conference about it that there is financial motives... how many times did he mention the new hotels being built right across the street from the staples center?

Unfortunately, he believes that only happens with warm-weather cities. It's not like Dallas where it showcases the new stadium (which isn't even an NBA arena, nonetheless).

Wasnt there an allstar game in Utah in 1993. Miami and Orlando had one in the early 90's too. Cebby was right that the NBA likes to have one for each team and is treating it like the one 7 yrs ago was for the lakers. This one is for the clips.

The NBA does it primarily by new arenas. The 2010 was planned to be at the Mavs arena but they thought that Cowboys stadium would be bigger and better.
