Re: I've never rooted as hard for a team as I did for Utah in '98
Those are clearly two different plays and anybody who has seen them can tell that. Reggie pushed him in the chest with two hands. Jordan did not push Russell at all. I mean hell if the man who was actually INVOLVED in the play (not watching on TV) said he wasn't pushed then it speaks for itself. I don't see how you could possibly say those two plays are the same.Comment

^^
As much as I despised Stockton this man took the cake for the Jazz...

Just because Russell said he DIDN'T push him doesn't mean that he DIDN'T push him. I would say the same thing to, I wouldn't dare "hate" on the best that ever did it when I am in a position that BR was. He BETTER say that MJ didn't push off.
I don't see how Jordan's hand on Russell's thigh can be ignored. It is called displacement. Jordan used his hand as an offensive assist. It is clear as day. I am not saying he SHOVED the dude, but he did in fact get away with a little pushoff. But that is basketball.

The question is DC, was it enough of a "nudge" to be considered an offensive foul?
I say he did brush him off but I wouldn't call that a foul. SO whatever you want to consider it, is irrelevant :]Comment

I mean it depends on who the refs are. If I was a ref, I don't know if I would make that call AGAINST MIKE in the last seconds of a finals game.
But back to Russell saying, "Mike didn't push off." What does a "bum" look like saying the best ever needed to use an illegal move to get past him? Again, Russell BETTER say Mike didn't push offConcrete evidence/videos pleaseComment

I don't think he pushed the dude at all but yes you can see that his hand did touch the man. I don't think there was enough contact at all to call an offensive foul and the contact didn't cause Russell to stumble to the ground. Like you said that is a part of basketball.Comment

100000% clear offensive foul. No bucket every time.
However...Utah beat Houston the season before with one of THE clearest illegal screens ever when they manhandled Clyde Drexler off ball...clear as day illegal screen...and that play won them the western conference.
The Jazz did tonnes of illegal stuff...so karma caught up with them
They were a great team though...I loved watching them play the pick and roll and their team cohesion was superb. One of the best teams ever to not win a championship.Comment

Re: I've never rooted as hard for a team as I did for Utah in '98
I remember visiting the US in 1998, right after the finals. One of the places I went to was Salt Lake City, and I remember going to a mall there, and there were NBA jerseys hung in some store. I punched Stockton's jersey and told people there that Jordan was the best and the Bulls are the champs. People there got angry with me...LOL...it wasn't a nice thing to do, but back then I couldn't stand the Jazz. I'm probably the only guy here who likes their game now, looking back. I really like Stockton's passes and Hornaceck's J's.My Specs:

I hated the Bulls as much as anyone and became a Knicks fan to that end, but even I couldn't really pull for the Jazz very hard in that series. I wanted them to win but after that 59 point game they should have just forfeited the rest of the series. Terrible uniforms too.Comment

Re: I've never rooted as hard for a team as I did for Utah in '98
BTW, Russell thinks MJ pushed off, at least today. Maybe in the past he did say that it was not a push off. I personally don't see it one way or the other. It was a push off but I wouldn't have called a foul.
"To me, that's the greatest play in basketball history," Russell said. "It will stay that way because he will always be the greatest player to play the game. I didn't mind. But the referees didn't make the call on the push off.
"It's long done and gone. It was a call that wasn't made on a play that was great."
Russell is throwing out a little challenge to MJ LOL.
