Dirk should not get hated on anywhere. Every time I hear someone talk down about Dirk's game, I lose a little bit of hope in people.

Nah, the Mavs sorely need Terry. The Mavs need a legitimate threat from the 3-point arc, because they don't have enough of those. In that role, Terry is as good as they come. He is also a fearless player, someone with the right attitude and won't shy away from any challenge.

The problem with the Mavs this offseason is they bet everything on signing Gortat. It's like they didn't have a contingency plan, in the event they didn't get him. And when Orlando matched the offer for Gortat, the Mavs had the look of a deer in headlights.

Their reaction after that fiasco has been questionable. Drew Gooden and Tim Thomas are decent players, but I don't believe they are the kind of players the Mavs need right now. The Mavs should've turned their attention to getting a talented swingman to take over the Stackhouse/Finley role.

The problem with Kidd is that he isn't much of a scoring threat. That wasn't a problem with his previous teams, who were loaded with scorers (Nets, Suns, and the '90s Mavs). But on the 2008 Mavs, Kidd's inability to score really hurt the team. That was a team where starters at center, point guard, and shooting guard were never a threat to score points. That left Dirk and Josh to shoulder all the scoring burden. And when Josh was hurt, the opposing teams basically ganged up on Dirk and dared anyone else to score.

( BTW, Dirk Nowitzki is an awesome player, but easily the most underappreciated player of the past 20 years. Anybody who questions his heart *cough*alexbrady*cough* must have a very short and very selective memory).

Jason Terry has been a flat out assassin late in games for much of his career in Dallas. I don't know where choke artist comes in next to his name.

I like Shawn Marion for the Mavs. Gooden and Thomas are 8th-9th guys who add depth. Not really worth talking about them.

I have never been a Mavs fan, but I have watched enough Mavs games to have a impression that Dirk is one of the best clutch players in the past few years.

And I also think your sample size is way too small to prove your point, cherry picking one game out of one series when others have come up with evidence how Dirk do good in clutch time throughout the years.

Dirk is one of the best PF of all time and the best mav's player of all time, if kidd has some legs to play this year and howard can play SG mavs are going to be great this year they are going to be 4th best team in the west. They have the players and talent to play so many different styles of play they are a very versatile team and I have faith in coach Carlisle.

So what are the Mavs going to do when they need an inside prescence in the playoffs again?

They probably arent done adding pieces. I would bet they are going to try to add another center. In Sept, they will be able to package Buckners expiring contract with other players.

They have already upgraded at center by letting Brandon Bass leave. He could be a solid backup PF for Orlando, but he would be playing center again for the Mavs. Gooden is not a good defender, but he is still an upgrade over Bass, if that tells you anything about how good of a defender Bass was for Dallas.

It would be great if Dallas could bring in someone at center that can contest shots better than Dirk, Dampier, Bass, and Hollins did...but perimeter defense was the main problem last season. There were times when they couldnt keep in front of slashers and keep them from driving to the lane. Dallas probably still wont be the best in that area, but they should have a better perimeter defense than last season and they werent terrible last season. It would be great if they could upgrade center as well, and stop having to play Dirk out of position, but simply upgrading perimeter defense should make a difference. However, again, the Mavs wont be a serious contender until they upgrade at center.
