Your Jordan Memorabilia
I thought this would be a fun thread to talk about anything special you have "Michael Jordan". I have an upper deck "Jordan retires" collectible card, limited to 99,000 worldwide, and some Slam magazines with him gracing the cover.Last edited by jetercanoturn2; 09-13-2009, 03:27 PM.Tags: None -

Re: Your Jordan Memorabilia
I saw it in stores. But I think it costs about $8, and I'm pretty tight on the money now so I gave it up, although my wife tried to convince me to take it.My Specs:

Re: Your Jordan Memorabilia
Yea man I feel ya, I spent 15 dollars combined on the ESPN and Slam tribute issues for Jordan. It's not a must have but it is nice, and I'm trying to cop as much Jordan stuff as I can.Comment

Re: Your Jordan Memorabilia
I don't have any stuff anymore, but the only thing I owned was a Michael Jordan sleeping bag. It was red or orange and it was him dunking on the front. Owned a leather Bulls jacket when I was little too, the one with the red sleeves and black body. That's it though, not a big collector, and wanted racing stuff more than sports stuff.Comment

Re: Your Jordan Memorabilia
By the way, I have another rare poster at my paretns' house: it's from 1992 (according to the shoes he's wearing there) and it was taken outside and from a lower angle. So you see MJ jumping in the air, like he's about to step right over you, and you can see the sun light. He's wearing the Bulls home uniforms, no arm/leg bands. I've never seen this photo anywhere, beside on this poster.Last edited by youvalss; 09-15-2009, 08:57 AM.My Specs:

Re: Your Jordan Memorabilia
Yeah it's a rare poster, imagine that it's 5' long! And I had to convince my friend to give it to me back in 1992 or 1993. He got it from a kid he did babysitting for (this kid had probably lived in the US for several years prior), so at the end my friend was willing to give it to me. I hung it on the wall in my old room, next to the window, above the computer desk...it covered almost the entire height of the wall!

Re: Your Jordan Memorabilia
Actually I kept all my Jordan posters from the 80s and 90s. I just have them all rolled up in one of those poster tubes sitting in my old bedroom closet.Fav teams:

Re: Your Jordan Memorabilia
I used to hate Michael Jordan so I'd trade all my Jordan cards to my brother for scraps back in the day. Eventually I saw the light and now I've got a lowkey but moderate collection of Jordan memorabilia. It includes:
-Jordan poster with Marvin the Martian
-Jordan poster from his restaurant in Chicago (free throw line Nike poster from '88 Dunk Contest)
-Wheaties box with a fold down basketball hoop on the back
-Jordan calendar possibly sponsored by Wheaties (he's in flourescent warmups wearing V's in most months)
-Jordan/Magic duo poster from what appears to be an elementary book order in the 80's
-A few shoeboxes of magazines ranging from Sports Illustrated to Beckett to Slam featuring MJ on the cover
-A bushel of Jordan shoes (all rereleased though, so that doesn't really count now does it? I wasn't nearly cool enough to wear them when they first came out)
And since I always gave away my Jordan cards, I was pretty empty in that area until I went to a garage sale in '06. Due to unfortunate circumstances (his card shop owning brother-in-law had passed away) a man was just trying to unload the piles of cards he'd left behind. My collecting days were over 10 years behind me but the sentimentalism began to hit me and they all looked so cool. His brother's shop was based in Chicago so there was Chicago sports excess in the collection. He offered me a huge pile of Jordan cards for $10 dollars. I was wishy washy and I walked away. . .but my girlfriend convinced me to return and make the purchase.
Long story short, the pile was full of dozens of mini-sets commemerating Jordan's return from his first retirement. Original issues of cards had been golden stamped with something like "He's back" or "Jordan returns to flight" and some small sets had English and Spanish on the back, which was at least unique. Most of them are worth a couple of dollars but nothing to write home about. However, there was one that slipped through the cracks, like a refractor or something, that turned out being worth over $200. So there's that.
PS: One last thing to the guys talking about saving things for their kids: it's pretty cool. I don't have kids, but I have two younger brothers in middle school and I've given them a large portion of my old posters and whatnot. Now both of their rooms are tributes to mid-90's NBA basketball. Their friends all have LeBron and Kobe and Dwight and here my bros are with Latrell, LaPhonso, and Larry. Hilarious, but awesome.Last edited by VDusen04; 09-17-2009, 10:52 PM.Comment

Re: Your Jordan Memorabilia
By the way, I think I still have that Slam or Hoop magazine from March 1995 (MJ wearing #45 in the air over the Pacers). But man, I threw away so much stuff when I moved to Canada...and I still had to pay $100 for over-weight... Some things are at my parents' house, some wandering around on some garbage mountain. Thankfully I have a site with TON of MJ old games, so I'll start getting it all back sometime. My Specs:
