Once again, preview mags are turrrible!

Is it just me or have the NBA preview magazine been garbage for the last few years? I seriously think they're the least informative of any major or college sport. The Sporting News is still my preference, but it's a shell of what it was three or four years ago. Heck, maybe it's been five years!

Not one preview has projected depth charts or lineups. Just training camp rosters, a breakdown story and a scout's take.

Does anyone else feel every magazine leaves a lot to be desired?
After more than eight years on here, I finally figured out how to edit my time zone!

Re: Once again, preview mags are turrrible!

I have all but abandoned the basketball preview magazines. I believe there is a direct correlation between the importance of preview magazines and the ready availibility of information throughout the internet. The delayed print, press, and release times of these magazines will nearly render them obsolete to those looking for up to date NBA start-of-season information.

I read SI's preview because I subscribe to SI and it provides a nice overview, but it rarely provides any information I didn't already read about online - contrary to the olden days. For instance, I remember not finding out about the Spurs' signing of Chuck Person until I bought one of those preview magazines while nowadays, I would have known of Person's signing a week before it actually happened.

Every NBA preview I've seen except for 2 from those metric stat websites has nearly an identical standings board and team records as last year. The physical magazines are the worst at this. They're just the team's roster, their record from last year and this year (usually the same), their predicted finish (usually the same), and some filler. Come on, have some balls and pick an underdog. That's why we have offseasons, so teams can try to get better and not just retain the exact same standings as last year!

The only time in the 2000's I've ever bought a basketball magazine period is when I was in the airport with a long layover and I bought Slam. You'll find much better sources of information on the internet.

100% Agreed. The Bucher Breakdown is always on point.

The thing is, they're hard to find. One second you're reading a thread about Delonte West riding dirty on a three wheeled motorcycle, the next second you're reading about how Delonte West is a great under-sized two guard who will mesh perfectly with the new additions of Jamario Moon and Anthony Parker, why LeBron James is overrated and how Shaq is a much, much better center than David Robinson.

Every post by Byook is a random, hidden gem just waiting to be found.
