As if I didn't hate the Lakers enough already. Why do they need Payton and Malone, anyway? Shaq and Kobe have already won three titles without them. Malone and Payton just want along for the ride, and they're willing to ride Shaq and Kobe's coattails in order to win a championship.

I would have a lot more respect for them if they joined a team that's on the threshold of winning a title but hasn't gotten there yet. In other words, this is great for the Lakers but a big “F-U!” to the rest of the league.

I am a laker fan and i will probably get flamed for this but.. why is it when a player takes less money to go to a contender everyone gets upset and says he wants the easy way to a ring

...then when he takes the cash to stay or go to a non contender he is greedy

. You just cant win.

But i think Phil will put all there ego's in check and they will be fine. I think they can share the ball and be ok. Kobe is the only one i worry about with his ego but after GP punks him in practice her hits him with a weight like he did Ruben Patterson in seattle he will be ok.

Payton will not just be riding their coattails. They weren't a championship team this year. They were lazy during the regular season and thought they were unbeatable but they learned they aren't a lock for the Finals. Payton will bring this team BACK over the top to the Finals. People say Payton isn't gonna do anything. That's BS cause they would not win the championship without him cause aside from Kobe and Snaq, their team sucks without Payton.

Because
1)the Lakers didn't win the championship this year.
2)Robert Horry was about 2 for 30 on 3s in the playoffs.
3)Malone will be the best PF the Lakers have had in 12 years.
4)Payton will be the best pure PG they've had since Magic.
5)The organization wants to keep the Laker winning tradition alive.
