Can surpass the '96 Bulls' record of 72-10 if they sign Payton and Malone?

maybe

lol...Aaron said maybe.
hell no is what i say. simply because this Laker team won't work as moothly as that 72-10 Bulls team. everybody knew their role. this Laker team won't be able to do that. Malone, i guarantee, will still be looking to take over his spot as the top scorer of all time over Kareem, and Kobe is Kobe, Shaq probably will be injured again lol and Gary will bicker about. that's his nature.

Wait. When did the Lakers stop running the triangle offense? Oh wait. They didn't.
Let's see. I'm sure Gary and Karl's phone conversation when like this...
GP: Hey Karl, if I agree to sign with the Lakers for less money than other teams that want to pay me more, can you guarantee I'll get my shots?
KM: Heck yeah man! I'm the mailman. I'll put Kobe AND Shaq in their place and make sure neither one gets to score more points than either of us.
GP: What if Phil Jackson wants us to run their offense?
KM: Who the F&CK is Phil Jackson? He ain't nobody.
GP: Wait Karl, aren't they paying Phil more than you?
KM: Uh...yeah. SO WHAT!! I'm going to enjoy my 1.5 million and get that scoring title. I don't need no rings.
GP: Yeah, me too. It's all about me gettin' my shot.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhttt t.

FUNNYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.......

you took it to the extreme. i'm just letting it be known that you can say that you're going to play within a system and compact your skills to fit the team concept, but everybody knows with those bunch of egos that's gonna be on that team, it's gonna be hard. you're talking about 4 guys who are used to getting their shots. no matter how you put them into a system, it's not easy to do and execute.
the '96 Bulls worked well int the Triangle because Jordan was the lead guard and the main scorer, Pippen was the second in command and was a point forward and Rodman didn't look for his shots. rememeber, whenever he scored he would be happy as hell? because he knew his role. he knew he wasn't suppose to score and he was content with that. he was there for his 15 or more rebounds, defense and his intangibles. they used depth at center to take on fouls and have a big man in the middle and a role player at the other guard, which was Ron Harper, who was there for his defense and experience. and they worked the Triangle offense to a T...because everybody was a good passer and passed the ball around...get their shot off...then come back on defense and locked down the opponent. they weren't called the Dobermen for nothing. everybody knew their role. and did it to perfection. and there were only two superstars: Jordan and Pippen.
and they won 72 in a league that's better than it is now. the Lakers would only do it because it's a weak league and all those extra good wins would come from beating a pitiful Eastern Conference.

Excellent points, P2K. Plus, folks gotta realize a HUGE factor in the Bulls going 72-10 was Jordan's motivation. The man was on a mission. He set out to prove he was still the best in the game and take his team back to the top.
Shaq will be hungry to prove to everyone he's still the most dominant player in the game today, but I don't think his drive comes anywhere close to the drive Jordan had.
