Re: So...does anyone think this Lakers team...

If Payton, Malone, Shaq, and Kobe can check their respective egos' at the door, and play as a team...this team will be very scary...but extermely exciting to watch as a basketball - fan / enthusiast.

To many 'chiefs' on a team and not enough 'indians' equals disaster. I hope Payton, Malone, Shaq, and Kobe understand this. There can only be one 'chief' on a team, and that is the head-coach.

If all these guys play thier roles and not as individuals, this Laker - team could go down as one of the greatest NBA teams of all time. They will be like a "mini" Dream-Team.

Plus remember the injury-factor. All these guys need to stay healthy.

Personally, I see to many egos on this team.

We will have to wait and see if winning and championships are what Payton, Malone, Shaq, and Kobe are really all about. All four have stated in numerous interviews over the years that championships are all they care about...guess we will find out.

This is coming from a true "Laker-*****"...

Re: So...does anyone think this Lakers team...

If GP and Karl play the role they are needed, they will win 70. Its a lot of Egos to be sure, but Chicago had Jordan, Pippen, and Rodman, who was out his damn mind. Beat the Bulls record, and win the title, and they could be considered the greatest single team in NBA history. They would have the stars, and if the role players(D Fish, Devean George, Jannero Pargo, Brian Cook step up), then why not.

The Bulls team of 96(which wasn't even the best Bulls team, despite the 72 wins, that was the team of 1991-92, which went 67-15) was good, but the 87 Lakers(65-17), 86 Celtics(67-15), 83 Sixers(65-17), 72 Lakers(69-13, 33 game winning streak), 71 Bucks(66-16), and 67 Sixers(68-13) had more talent in there starting lineup, if not as a whole. (I would have mentioned some of the celtics teams, but a lot of those teams struggled in the Finals, barely winning where as most of the rest of these smoked the NBA during the regular and post season. That being said, if you went on talent in the hall of fame, they might be the most talented, although some of there players may have benefited from being on good teams.[James Worthy and Robert Parish, although not on the Celtic teams, are two players who may have gotten in as a result of being good players on great teams.]

If the Lakers win over 72 games, beat a very talented San Antonio team(which in addition to Tim Duncan may have future Hall of Famers Alonzo Mourning and Jason Kidd) and win the NBA title, then I don't know what else you could ask for in being called one of, if not the greatest team of all time.

the hype about the lakers is just been over the limit, come on guys these guys haven't played together and you guys think they can beat the 72-10. this laker thing has been just ridiculous. this is not a guarantee right away. look at the rockets before. man the lakers even don't have good bench players. too many stars in a team can't guarantee a superb season right away.
