I def see your perspective but i guess i just took it as them saying he looks like Sasha Baron Cohen from a physical standpoint rather than it being an insult about the guy being hopeless etc.

Iran is a 3rd world country by most definitions so i thought the commentators were sort of saying they were impressed that a guy could make it to the pro's from that country which i think is fair enough. I kinda thought it was a compliment as in "OMG this guy made it all the way to the nba from Iran, i didn't even know they played basketball in Iran" kind of way.

You are right in that it was wasn't a very professional way of saying it but i guess these guys are commentating Clippers vs Grizz games for a reason.

I don't think he looked anything like Borat.

...and Iran is higher than Austrailia in GDP; 18th overall. So they're not 3rd world. There value system, beliefs, etc might be 3rd world but their economy and quality of life is not.

But I thank you for your reply and ability to have a civil discussion.

Lol i gotta admit i did a bit of research and was shocked by those GDP figures myself.

As for the looking like Borat thing, you throw a mustache on Haddadi and they could be brothers imo.

EDIT: Looks like this is a pretty polarising topic with just about everyone voting either in the harmless buffoonery or very offensive categories and very few in between.

It could be considered both harmless buffoonery and very offensive. I think most people would agree that the announcers were just joking around and weren't actively trying to be malicious, so in that sense it was harmless buffoonery. But that doesn't mean their remarks weren't offensive to people.

I would like to know how to really say "Iranian" I mean if I were to talk about someone from Iran at this point, I would pronounce it the same way as the announcers, I dont know how else there is to say it.

The entire thing is comical to say the least. I mean imagine you are an announcer, announcing a boring game and in comes this dude you have never seen before, who looks like borat or sacha baron cohen and he is the first player from Iran to play in the NBA. There is nothing, and I mean nothing malicious in what they said. Anyone who watched the game and thinks those announcers were racist or trying to slander the dude or something to that effect are just trying to be offended and really arent.

Borat? Yea nothing offensive about being compared to that moron. Please, you can't possibly believe your own BS. Your post was just for shock value right?

Pretty disappointed in OS regarding this topic. This is obvious racism, and our war with Iran(they are funding the people we fight so yes, we're at war with them) doesn't make it okay. Not getting too into it beyond that, but this entire thread is against the TOS, imo.

That's you, though. I have no idea what nationality you are, but how could you tell someone to not be offended at a slap against his/her people, albeit major or minor? People crack me up doing that. It's simple-minded and ignorant.
