Its become clear hes no pure offensive player. Closer to Bill Russell than Shaq.

Hell no. Dwight is the best shot blocker and rebounder in the league. He would improve the roster of every single team he is not currently playing on.

The negativity surrounding Dwight in this thread is surprising

Sure he hasn't added much to his offensive post game but he's still as dominant as ever on the glass and defensively.. and he's still 24.

I still find it confusing that he even bothers (and the coach and team let him) post up and just throw hail mary's down low. He has no touch and no sense of what a post move is.

Geez, as a kid no matter how tall or short you are, you always go through a stage of copying post moves from people like Hakeem, Shaq, Ewing, even a basic running hook like Mourning or some up and unders and fadeaways from Jordan. But Dwight has none of this.

I'd still take him on my team but just wouldn't give him the ball on offense.

Orlando needs to to see if the Lakers'll accept a Ewing for Jabbar trade.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

How come Dwight's NBA Draft Scouting Report says that he has post moves and a jumper?

I know he doesn't have a short-range jumper and I don't think he has a GO TO move he can count on.

He's nothing more than a glorified Bill Russell who can do dunk contests.

Dwight DID have a jumper. I remember one pre-season when the Magic played in China or Taiwan or somewhere the espn guys kept mentioning that Dwight worked on a good jumper out to like 15 feet like Darryl Dawkins. I have no clue why he dropped it and stopped working on it or using it but it was working pretty well in that game.

I think a part of the overrated talk has to do with fans and media wanting and expecting Dwight to be something that he is not.

This is not a Big Man that can just nuke a game offensively on a night in night out basis.

He's not Shaq offensively. Heck..he isnt David Robinson offensively (which is what I thought he could be.)

He's a dominant rebounding/shot blocking force, who can overwhelm you on the offensive glass and with this athleticism.

So, Howard's not a superstar. He is more like a less clumsy, more athletic Dikembe Mutombo.

I think a more athletic, less annoying Alonzo Mourning (Minus the 12-15 footer that Zo eventually developed), is a better comparison.

Who are the best bigs in the game today?

This is my list, feel free to critique it (in not particular order)

                            K.G.
                            Timmy
                            Shaq
                            Gasol
                            Dwight
                            Amare
                            Bosh
                            Yao

Two of the guys on this list can't even score one-on-one: Amare and Dwight.

If Dwight just did a couple things, he'd be a lot better off:

                            (1) Protect the ball, no need to bring the ball all the way down to your knees so you can jump 4 feet into the air ... when you can keep it up, and jump a foot and a half and still dunk it (think Pau Gasol)... it's two points either way, Dwight. You have to make scoring easier, and it doesn't get easier if you have the ball two feet from the rim, where few people can reach it, and you bring it down eight feet from the rim, where other people can strip you.

                            (2) Work on your free throws. If you can get up to even 70%, you would be a handful for teams. Yao Ming killed the theory that tall people couldn't hit free throws, 'cause he's like 80%+ on his career.

                            (3) Work on your post game, whether that be face-up, back down, whatever, work on that. You work on rebounding so hard, think of this like the reverse of rebounding, instead of positioning yourself with good footwork and moves to get the ball on a miss, position yourself with good footwork and moves to get some points. Maybe he needs to watch some footage of Bill Walton, Gasol, Shaq, Kareem, Jordan, Adrian Dantley, Charles Barkley, David Robinson, Tim Duncan, or somebody, 'cause right now, you're not there yet.

Now, I will give Dwight his due, I can see that he's been trying to do something, as he seemed to have a bit of a face-up thing going, and he's trying to do that Patrick Ewing thing ... but I honestly don't see Patrick as a great post presence, he seemed more like a jump shooter trapped in a 7-footers body. ... And yeah, I remember that traveling floater, or his trademark fadeaway jumper.

The only problem is, I think the post on offense can be used to score points, either through baskets, or drawing fouls, and fadeways and floaters don't feel aggressive enough for me.

Work on those free throws, Dwight. They're going to foul you, but just make 'em, man.

After the games Zach Randolph just had i think he needs to be on the list, he's turning into Moses Malone.

Homer alert big time, but Bosh has become a legit post threat...

He's not just a faceup guy. With the bulk he has added he is dominating right now...
