Thinking Out Loud: Trade JR Smith for Tyrus Thomas?

This is no rumor going around, just something I thought of a did in my 2K10 association.

Chicago needs a SG that can shoot. Smith can shoot.

    Denver needs another big body.

Chicago gets something in return for a player they probably won't resign, and Denver gets another big body and only sacrifices an inconsistent shooter.

    Thoughts?

edit// Can a mod add at the end of the title, "not a rumor, a question" Don;t want people to get the wrong idea.

Both of those teams need what their player brings more than they need the other guy, IMO. The Bulls would probably love to upgrade Salmons, but quality size is what they already lack. They'd never give up TT without getting back a scoring big in return. Denvers bench would take a huge hit without JR, while Tyrus and The Birdman would be a little redundant, IMO.

If I were the Bulls GM, I would be trying to see what Minny wants for Al Jeff.

Afflalo has had some signs of offensive ability this year and Lawson is in the ROY discussion behind Jennings and Evans. Also don't forget Carter, he has done well eveyrtime Denver has called his name. I really don't think missing JR would be a huge hit. With Thomas coming into the fold they will add another big which they need.

Chicago should realize that ehy aren't going anywhere in the playoffs this year. Thomas won't be there next year to make room for Wade/Bosh/Boozer. Might as well get something that would improve a position for something that won't even be in red next year.

You mentioned Big Al, what could Minny even want from Chicago? Minny's biggest need is SG and C, both of which Chicago doesn't have.

        Hell no.

Terrible trade for the Bulls. Especially since they already had JR Smith and gave him up to the Nuggets for Howard Eisley.

Plus you mention the Bulls aren't going any where in the Playoffs... and you think they are going with JR Smith? He jacks up shots from anywhere from the court whenever he wants. Yes he can light it up but he rarely looks to pass and to top it off he is very disinterested on defense.

As far as the Nuggets, isn't K-Mart and Anderson enough? Do they really need another banger?

Not to mention JR Smith has another year on his contract and the deal wouldn't work financially either.

You're right, the bench would take a hit. Smith opens up the floor because of his long range shooting. Losing Linas Kleiza hurt them in that department... they can't loss Smith.

Terrible idea. If Nuggets need a big it should be someone who has some post moves and can create for himself under the basket. Thomas is not the guy.

Denver absolutely loves Smith-there is no way they trade their super-sub. He jacks up shots as ppl say because he has the green light, that's his role. Besides, he tries on defense.

Where did you get that idea from?

I like it. I think the idea is that during the playoffs Denver will play Billups 40+ minutes with Lawson filling in the PG/SG minutes of Earl.

Tyrus Thomas can play the 3/4 against the Lakers. Guarding Artest or Odom (both players the Nuggets don't have anyone to cover right now unless KMart is healthy and consistent....something they have counted on in the past).

Anyway I look at it solely from a playoff perspective and mostly against how Denver matches up against the Lakers.

I have no idea why Chicago would add another guard.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks JR could help out Chicago.

                Altimus,

You're right, TT isn't ideal for Denver, but he would still fit a need. Honestly Camby would be the perfect fit in Denver since he is EXACTLY what they need, and they already have the chemistry there.

Altimus is right. JR can stay his happy go chucky behind in Denver. Tyrus is my guy. The Nuggest should have kept Kleiza.

Im still pissed Paxson just gave away JR for nothing in the first place.

But then again he is an idiot.

No what? The should have kept Kleiza? Good old Linas was an actual back up for Melo, something they don't have anymore, who could play the 4 if needed.

Linas is far more valuable than JR.
