I don't get why the NBA limits the number of capable guys that want to enter. Instead of having 4 guys in the dunk contest, why not add T-Will who openly said he wants to dunk, get rid of the play-in and make the dunk contest have a larger field? Instead of having 3 minutes of commercials after every dunk, NBA/TNT needs to think about the fans and fix this lame dunk contest format up.

    NBA: New Jersey Nets
NFL: Detroit Lions / New York Giants
    NCAA: UNC

I think that might be part of the problem now. There's less people/rounds so there's no build up or time for them to get comfortable. They have to be throwing out crazy stuff right from the start just to get to the second round. Might be part of the reason it takes so many attempts at times as well.

        David Stern.

His ego won't let James White or And1ers enter.

        End of story.

This is beyond a snoozer. The last creative "dunk" I saw was Gerald Green's candle...I don't care what anyone says about using props. That was ingenious...even if it wasn't just about the dunk.

Don't forget Andre Iguodala. To this day I believe he pulled off the best dunk I've ever seen performed in the NBA Dunk Contest.

My money is with Demar Derozan, i think nate should have 0 dunk trophies,(yes im a *****) but the only reason his dunks look somewhat good is cause of his height. I would like to see Nate do a dunk then one of the contestants mimic it and see who gets the higher score. I'm willing to be he could miss the dunk 3 times and still get a higher score then the mimic dunk.

Not really suprised here. I don't really blame him to back out. I wouldn't think he'd fare well in the dunk contest. He doesn't seem like seem like a dunk contest dunker.

If DeRozan gets in, I'll tune it. If not, I'll pass like I have been for the past few seasons.

                Definitely Iggy as well!

He had some amazing dunks he got robbed on.

Re: No LeBron in the Dunk Contest

DeRozan seems like the best athlete but i think he seems kind of like a mellow dude who might not give the contest his all. You know how every contest has at least one guy who try's to act cool and doesn't put his heart and soul into it, I'm hoping DeMar isn't that guy.

I could fix the dunk contest in 5 minutes:

have 8 contestents, up the prize money to 1 mil, let anyone who wants to be in it nominate, no props, 3 dunks per round per dunker, no do overs, knockout style untill it get's down to the last 2 who have a best of 3 dunk off.

They need to cut the gimicks and get back to showcasing the artistry of the dunk.

LBJ is scared of losing...and that is a lame excuse for not participating in the 2010 Dunk Contest.

Shaq can get the **** outta here with that. The only way they'll even think of doing it is for Haiti. I strongly doubt that Kobe/VC would enter, nor do I think they are better entries than anyone but Eric Gordon. Maybe 3-5 years ago.

Kobe? LMAO. He can hardly do a basic dunk these days. OK so I'm exaggerating, but yeah those knees are shot in terms of dunking. Not to mention his finger is broken.

Vince? He's been injured pretty much all year. No go. He too isn't as spry as he once was.

DeRozan would destroy both of them easy.

Shaq proposes new plan for Dunk Contest; Calls Kobe and Vince Out.

Following Tuesday night's win over Toronto, O'Neal was asked if he would like to see teammate LeBron James participate in this year's event. That's when he offered his idea. He would like to see former dunk champion Vince Carter, Kobe Bryant and others take part along with James.
"As his manager, I will only allow 'Bron to do the dunk contest if Vince Carter comes back out," O'Neal said. "If Kobe comes back out and if another big name comes back out. If we could get a big prize and have half of the money go to the people of Haiti and the other half to the winner.
"The guys that are in it, no disrespect to them, but there won't really be any competition for LeBron. I want to see Kobe. I want to see Vince and I will allow my client to enter."
                            Could he make it happen?
"I'm saying it now," O'Neal said. "So tweet it. Facebook it. E-mail it and hopefully it gets out. Vince, we're calling you out. Kobe, we're calling you out. We're calling everybody out. If those guys step up in the dunk contest, then I will allow my client to step up."
James has decided to skip next month's event in Dallas after originally saying he would participate.
Edit: Since I apparently don't have 5 posts yet, I can't post the link. Anyways its on the NBA website.

Vince is nowhere near as explosive as he used to be... Can't remember the last time I saw Kobe really jump for a throwdown...

Lebron has nothing to do with the threat of losing to 'lesser' dudes. We both know even if he as much as farts in the direction of the rim he'll get 10s across the board. They kiss his butt that much.
