Re: Celts to acquire Jamison and Butler?

Talked to two league sources who shot down BOS-WAS rumor. One said teams never had conversations about Allen for Jamsion/Butler swap.

    From Michael Lee.

Also, there is a rumor out there that the Mavs and Wiz have a deal with it being Butler and DeShawn for Howard but Cuban wants to explore everything before he makes a move.

Re: Celts to acquire Jamison and Butler?

Interesting. Here is my take on the 3 players that matter (Allen, Butler, and Jamison).

Allen: This guy is a tremendous clutch shooter who can curl off screens and rip the nets during money time. He has lost a step so he can't drive and finish really well but he is adequate in this area. His 3 pointers clang off the front rim much more often due to his aging legs. He is not a great defender but he is never out of position and he can force his man into help areas. Overall, he would be just another high powered scorer on a bad team.

Butler: Very good scorer who seems to peak at crucial moments of a ballgame. He is not a very good 3 point shooter and his concentration has wavered recently. Defensively, he has really quick hands and he is strong and a hard worker. Him and Allen are very different players. Butler needs more time and space with the ball while Allen is a continuity player who doesnt need the ball in his hands as much.

Jamison: This guy is a tricky finesse scorer with quick moves. He is a solid rebounder. Unfortunately, he is an awful defender and he chokes in the clutch. I've never liked his game much at all.

Sounds like another deal by Ainge just throwing it out to the media.

This would be the worst trade of all time or close to it. Wizards get absolutely nothing, no assets, only expiring contracts.

Ric Bucher just reported that the Danny Ainge doesn't want to make this trade because he doesn't want to take on both Butler and Jamison's contracts.

Eh, someone is floating this deal out there. Could be the Wizards to put a little heat under the Cavs to do something.

He'd be a powered scorer on an abysmal team for 2 months. Then he'll sign for relatively cheap with a contender.

That's about the best we can expect.

The only teams who would want an overpriced Jamison and a good but not great Butler would be a contending team, and a contending team isn't trading a great player.

If we were feeling really daring we could push for a Big Baby or Booby Gibson, but that would still not make us any better.

I thought after the 08 season that Jamison and Butler would be fine leading a midlevel playoff team, and with Haywood back from injury and the Miller and Foye acquisitions I thought we'd be a playoff team this year but we're worse than ever.

Those two have to go to start the rebuilding, and I'll take salary room any day over 2-3 role players. They're good players, but this is a bad situation right now. It's like the Pau trade except we'll actually use the cap room we acquire.

This, although I think they should go more in the direction of someone like that guy that the Cavs drafted this year, Christian Eyenga or something like that. Not necessarily Eyenga, but someone similar that they can develop, because personally, I don't think Eyenga will ever turn into anything. Someone that's very young but has potential to make a difference down the road. Rather than just aquiring a young role player like Big Baby or Gibson.

Re: Celts to acquire Jamison and Butler?

Ric Bucher said on Sportscenter about an hour ago that Boston isn't crazy about taking on the big contracts of both Butler, and Jamison.

I mean these two guys definitly provide depth up front for Boston, but trade or no trade, if KG or Pierce can't stay healthy then Boston does not beat Cleveland or Orlando in my opinion.

But pairing Butler and Jamison to a healthy KG and Pierce? Then Boston upped their chances of beating the Cavs imo.

My only question is who would start at the 2? Butler? Pierce? Tony Allen??

Even if Boston is "healthy", I don't think they beat the Cavs. In 2008, it took the Celtics 7 games to beat the Cavs and those Cavs didn't have Mo, Shaq, Parker, Moon, etc. They were playing guys like Ben Wallace, Wally, and Pavlovic instead.
