Well Miami or Charlotte made the most sense when AI parted ways with Memphis. Those two teams still make some sense.

Not sure where he could end up for a long term commitment.

Honestly, I have no idea why any playoff team would take a risk by picking up Iverson at this point in his career.

No playoff teams were attempting to sign in the off season and he would not entertain their contract offers because he didnt want to come off the bench. He has pretty much burned down those bridges to me.

There was a time when this all would have provoked a long and loud debate. Now, though, it is all shrugs and head-shakes and not much more. This argument is quite played out. This time around, the only certainty seems to be the effect Iverson had on his teammates, that of a behind-the-scenes force for stability (of all things). Williams said that Iverson's honesty ("He doesn't really pull punches") was refreshing and necessary.
"We're torn because obviously we wanted him to be part of our team," Williams said. "We brought him back and actually, when things got rough, he was the guy that kind of kept everybody together, kept the locker room loose and kept our spirit high. But at the same time, family comes first and he has to take care of home . . .
"He was always the one cracking jokes and keeping guys loose. At a point in the season like this, it's easy to get stressed out and [for] the locker room to be a place you don't really want to be, but he was great with that. He was great in the locker room with Jrue [Holiday] and myself."
A minute after Williams spoke yesterday after practice, teammate Andre Iguodala said the same thing.
"I think he helped the guys out a lot, just being at ease," he said. "Not just from a basketball standpoint, but going through rough times. It can be really frustrating, losing a lot of games. It can be miserable during the season but he did a good job of bringing his personality to us, as far as even on the plane or the bus, guys just having a chance to laugh. It's not all negative. He brought a positive side. Guys enjoyed being around him."

Allen Iverson's wife files for divorce

The children and their parents have lived in north Atlanta since August, according to the court filing. Before that, the family claimed homes in Rochester, Mich.; Englewood, Colo.; Denver, Colo.; and Villanova, Pa.

On Feb. 22, Allen Iverson and the 76ers announced that he was leaving the team for personal reasons.

The former NBA MVP and four-time scoring champion said he wanted to be in Atlanta to be with his daughter, Messiah, who had an undisclosed illness.

In a posting on Twitter, Allen Iverson wrote: “I need to be there to hold my little girl’s hand and encourage her to get better. I wanted her to wake up every morning and see her Daddy’s face, at least until she got better. Through God’s Strength, She Will Keep Getting Better!”

Prior to that announcement, Iverson had missed five games and the All-Star Game to be with his family.

The team said Tuesday, the day the divorce petition was filed, that lverson would not return to the team this season.

“After discussing the situation with Allen, we have come to the conclusion that he will not return to the Sixers for the remainder of the season, as he no longer wishes to be a distraction to the organization and teammates that he loves very deeply,” 76ers general manager Ed Stefanski said. “It has been very difficult for Allen and the team to maintain any consistency as he tries to balance his career with his personal life.”

Well not really all the sixer players have given him nothing but praise, and wished him the best etc especially dalembert. He did refocus the team, helped them while he was there. Be cool if he signed with a good team before the dead line (or has it passed already?) cause he still got some left in the tank.

Reports (via TrueHoop) are that he is having alcohol problems and that contirubted to the divorce filing. Hope he gets some help... sad way for one of the greatest players to go out, especially when he seemed to be having a positive impact overall in Philly as a veteran presence.

I really hope we don't have another Steve McNair type situation with AI in a couple years.

I was always a huge AI supporter and would go to battle for him even when I really thought he was in the wrong on some of the things he did. This last chapter to his career seems to really be going down a sad path.
