Webber was hands down the best pick in the draft. He was a beast in college. He seemed like a certain HOFer coming out. Problem is the Magic were building around Shaq who they drafted the year before and a PG made more sense. Penny was no slouch but Webber was the sure thing. I don't remember the specifics of the trade but that doesn't sound right. Are you sure they gave up the #1 overall AND picks just for Penny?

Re: 2010 NBA Draft Thread.
There are 4 things Nets fans have been talking about this year
1. The arena... will it ever get done? New lawsuit is once again holding it up.
2. the draft... Nets fans were banking on having the #1 pick and getting Wall.
3. Lebron... there is hope that he will come to NJ
4. The next coach... all of the coaching rumors have been a topic of discussion
Evan Roberts was fun to listen because he's a Mets & Jets fan as well and he was saying that with the luck his teams have, the Nets won't get the #1 pick and he was right.
I wanted the Nets to get the #1 pick, i want NJ & NY to be good once again which is why i want one of them to get Lebron. So quit getting on me for talking about how disappointed Nets fans must be. Flip on wfan tomorrow morning at 10am and you'll hear Evan express what a lot of Nets fans are thinking.Comment

(Slightly off-topic)
I was too young to care/remember, but since we have some old heads in here.. I was looking back at the 1993 NBA Draft. Why did Orlando take Chris Webber with the first overall pick in the draft, then trade him and THREE first round picks for the 3rd pick in the draft, Penny Hardaway?Comment

Re: 2010 NBA Draft Thread.
They just said on SC that only 4 teams with the worst record in the league have ended up with the 1st pick(since the lottery's inception obviously). Seriously? That's crazy.Indianapolis Colts
Indiana Pacers
Indiana Hoosiers

Yea, my bad, had it backwards. But still, why wouldn't Orlando just draft Penny outright? The thing that gets me is that Webber was traded immediately, it's not like they were into the season and found that Webber+Shaq wasn't going to work or something.[NYK|DAL|VT]

Re: 2010 NBA Draft Thread.
i made a comment about what i thought the nets would do in the draft, giving my prediction and opinion and the guy got on me all sarcastic about me knowing the future. I didnt come here to piss off nets fans but when someones gonna get on my *** i'm responding. All i did was talk about the mood around NJ throughout the year and how they were banking on getting the #1 pick. When they would talk about the Nets on the radio they wouldnt talk about the actual games, they would just talk about how they were counting on getting the #1 pick (Wall) and then hopefully they can get Lebron. I dont understand whats so bad about me talking about that?

i'm sorry where did i ever say win the championship next year?
I said i think they'll take Cousins. Thats my prediction, did i say its a fact? No. I see them taking either Cousins or Favors.
If they would have gotten Wall i think that would have been more appealing for Lebron because he likes Wall. It has nothing to do with ESPN because if i just followed what ESPN said i'd be saying Lebron is going to Chicago when this whole time ive been saying NYK 1st, NJ 2nd.
And don't tell me Nets fans aren't pissed as hell. I actually live in NJ unlike you who are from the Maryland/DC area. I've been listening to the radio shows since the season began and Nets fans have been looking forward to the #1 pick and John Wall since they knew the season was over. Everyone assumed it was a foregone conclussion the Nets would have the #1 pick, get Wall then hopefully get Lebron. Thats what Nets fans have been hoping for but that dream was just crushed.
I have a better insight as to what Nets & Knicks fans are thinking about since i listen to them every day on the radio and since i'm in the ticket business and have gone to my fair share of Nets games this season since i didnt have to pay for tickets as well as Knicks games.

Or what?
If all you were doing is what you claim then a blind monkey could see that you could've found a better way of going about it. Even if Nets fans are "crushed" what's the honor in beating a man when he's down? Even worse to try to defend it.Comment

Re: 2010 NBA Draft Thread.
yea its crazy, thats why i think the lotto is good, because unlike the NFL where the worst record automatically gets the #1 pick, you aren't guaranteed the #1 pick as a reward for tanking or being terrible.Comment

Re: 2010 NBA Draft Thread.
It was essentially no different than trading the #1 for the #3 and 2 picks. It just took longer to develop. As good as Webber was projected to be, my guess is they would've settled for a Webber/Shaq combo if the phone never rang. The draft was Webber then everybody else so taking anyone else first would've been like the Wiz not drafting Wall this year.Comment

Here are your first 3 posts in this thread.
The first post is just hate for no reason and the 2nd two have specific shots at Nets fans.

Oh i'm sorry, i guess i'm supposed to come on here and say everything is great because we dont want reality around here when the reality is disappointment for fans that have been disappointed the past few years.
Beating a man when he's down, go to other threads and you'll find plenty examples of beating a man while he's down like people getting on Lebron or other athletes. It happens, get over it. Everyone doesnt have to be positive about everything so that nobodies feelings are hurt.
I dont see anything wrong with predicting that they're going to take Cousins and predicting him as a bust if he can't control his emotions and mature when others have had that same thought. And i dont see a problem with saying that Nets fans are disappointed and being blunt about it, you cant tell me people at East Rutherford tonight werent thinking negative things after they didnt get the #1 pick.
There is nothing wrong with what ive said so you're getting on my case for no reason.Last edited by JerseySuave4; 05-18-2010, 11:27 PM.Comment

Re: 2010 NBA Draft Thread.
i dont think tanking happens in the sense that teams dont play guys and try to lose but i do think guys pack it in when they know they have nothing to play for. Football isnt the kind of sport where you can just go half speed and tank because thats when you get hurt but what i was trying to say is that if the NBA had the same draft setup as the NFL, then you would see teams tanking more.Comment

Re: 2010 NBA Draft Thread.
It may be much for any one player, I don't know. But understand, Wall is transcendental. He will change the game. He will be the next superstar barring injury. I mean James/Wade/Bryant/Jordan superstar. This is all my opinion, but I seriously have no doubt.
Again, I don't know if trading that much for a player like that is worth it. If Lebron came there with him, then absolutely. But would you do it for Lebron coming out of high school?
it'd be a great deal. Harris has been injury prone and if it made Lebron more likely to go to NJ then its a no brainer. You also get rid of Harris' contract which is $8.9 mil this year, $9.3 mil next year, $8.5 mil the year after that so it gives you more cap space this summer. Devin Harris is no spring chicken anymore and they can market Wall as their future (unless Lebron comes as well then he's obviously the center of marketing).
Durant ain't coming here man, stop listening to Cebby. Besides he's already given OKC the Dirk Treatment in that he'll resign with OKC and possibly take a discount so the team can resign Westbrook and maybe Green.

Re: 2010 NBA Draft Thread.
The team with highest odds has the highest chance to win the lottery. But it's ONLY a 25% chance.
Flip it around, and that same team has a 75% chance of NOT getting the #1 overall pick.
Not so crazy when you look at it that way.Comment

Re: 2010 NBA Draft Thread.
the 1st post was a joking statement about how all the talk was they'll get Wall and then Lebron and now that dream is gone. Then i talked about how upset the Nets fans must be aka "drowning in their own tears" because like i've said, Nets fans were banking on the #1 pick.
