Can the NBA use replacement Players if there is a Lockout?

Does anyone know if the NBA can use replacement players if there is a lockout? I believe it was threatened during an earlier work stoppage, but I am unaware if it was prohibited by the current Collective Barganing Agreement.

2011 Replacements: Me, Born, Ehh, Ex and Alt FTW! LMAO
    Record: 4-78

Seriously though, I doubt that would ever be feasible. That would be HORRIBLE business sense. Why would you invest in a product with hardly any recognizable people. You'd have guys like Pops Mensah-Bonsu being a perennial All-Star.

Absolutely not, Stern would sooner cut off his limbs than allow the NBA product to be completely devalued and represented by guys from the IBL or ABA2000. Guys in those leagues probably arent even good enough to make it in a lower level European professional league much less be starting for the scab Knicks.

As a result of researching this I learned that Kyle Keyes of the IBL's Vancouver Titans is the son of 1970's adult film actor Johnny Keyes. That would be the greatest "Where Amazing Happens" commercial ever.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

I think they can only use replacement players in the case of a strike, not a lockout anyway. Could be wrong though.

I was unsure of how that would work. I thought they could bring players in with any work stoppage.

Dang it, now I have to look up Johnny Keyes. For the record, I have seen some of those minor league players. Some were okay. Some were awful. Sun Ming Ming is the worst player I have ever seen. Think Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz. Slow, Mechanical, and clueless on the court.

                I believe this is right.

The players are under contract through the NBA Players' Association, their union. If there is a strike, the NBAPA calls a work stoppage, freezing the contracts of unionized players, but the owners may still find players to fulfill their obligations to put on games. It's like the owners' last recourse when the NBAPA bails on them.

In the case of a lockout, the owners are stopping work for anyone on the team without the consent of the Players' Association. The owners are bailing on the players in this case. If they allow anyone to play, they have to use the NBAPA because of the contracts.

It's like if you're a tenured professional. If you quit, your employer can replace you. If they eliminate your job, they can't hire anyone else to do the same job because you're tenured and it would be as if they improperly fired you (because you can't be fired if you have tenure).
