Who do you think ranks as the Top 5 of All-Time?

Of course, I am a Bulls fan for life so of course Michael Jordan and Pippen are my favorites but I want to know who do think is the top 5 players to ever put on an NBA uniform...

    Here's my top 5
    1.Michael Jordan
    2.Magic Johnson
    3.Larry Bird
    4.Bill Russell
    5.Oscar Robertson/Jerry West

SN: I didn't put Lebron, Kobe, Iverson, Wade, Shaq, etc. because some of these guys are still active players and have not finished a full NBA Career yet.

It really should be a top 6 because IMO those 6 are set in stone the only thing that changes is the order.

      1a Michael Jordan
      1b Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
      3 Bill Russell
      4 Wilt Chamberlain
      5 Magic Johnson
      6 Larry Bird

Before I read Simmons book I never rated Kareem that highly but the book and doing my own research really opened my eyes to the idea that the only player that could possibly challenge Jordan as the GOAT is Jabbar.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

^ Really? Simmons was a little harsh on "the ninny", although he did rank him 3rd, right?

Yes, he was rough on him until he started breaking down his ranking at 3rd. The fact that Kareem's prime lasted from roughly 1970-1986 and he won his 1st and last mvp awards 10 years apart is amazing to me. That longevity might be unmatched by any player in North American sports except for Gordie Howe.

so great to see a Maravich mention! though his defense keeps me from putting him in my top 5. top 10 or 15, no doubt!

here's mine (and let me say beforehand, championships don't play as huge a role in my opinion as it does in so many others'. because I think winning isn't a complete product of the player; it helps to be in the right situation as well)

Instead of doing all-time, I'll do the Top 5 I've ever seen.

                  1. Michael Jordan
                  2. Magic Johnson
                  3. Larry Bird

Is Karl Malone a top 5 player if he gets at least one ring?

                      I think so.

I agree. Pistol Pete definitely brought in a new form of passing the ball that really wasn't heard of at the time.

                          Top 5:

                          1) Wilt Chamberlain
                          2) Michael Jordan
                          3) Oscar Robertson
                          4) Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
                          5) Bill Russell

                          Second 5:

                          6) Magic Johnson
                          7) Larry Bird
                          8) Elgin Baylor
                          9) Jerry West
                          10) John Havlicek

These are the immortal players. IMO, the old cats had a better understanding of the game. Who was smarter on the court than Bill Russell? He knew where you were going and what you were going to do. Oscar Robertson(who my dad says is better than Jordan) and Jerry West - there's nothing they couldn't do on the basketball court. Kareem had the most devastating weapon in NBA history.

I give today's players credit for their athletic skills, but the old guys were great athletes in their own right. Read about some of the things Wilt did when he played track & field - sick stuff.

I have no idea how to rank the old-school guys, so I'll go with more modern players:

                            1) MJ
                            2) Magic Johnson
                            3) Larry Bird
                            4) Tim Duncan
                            5) Kobe Bryant/Shaq/Hakeem. Can't decide.
