Avery Johnson isn't as big a step up from Shaw as you make it sound.#RespectTheCulture -
Re: Cavaliers to hire Brian Shaw as HC
Great news.
Again, the Cavs need someone to teach them how a champion thinks, reacts and performs in clutch situations. The Cavs won an obscene amount of games and was a top 3 offensive efficiency club, even with a horrendous offensive X and O coach. That crap is overrated, IMO. It's the team that is toughest, most poised, and most mentally prepared for adversity that win 'chips. PJ is the master. Shaw is the pupil. The only fear I have is that the top assistant is like the mom of the staff...can Shaw be the daddy? We'll see.
If a rook HC is going to be a problem for Bronny, then CHI would have been a no-go also, lol.
A desire to test the triangle is the only coaching related comment or reference that Bron has made AT ALL since this circus began, and even if they only mix it in through year one, the new structure should help the Cavs in late game situations. I worry that the Lakers have never been a dominant defensive squad, but when Kuester left, Mike Malone took over the offense, while Melvin Hunt became the D-coordinator. Hunt is still on staff, so if Shaw keeps him, our defense should'nt take too much of a hit. All he should need is a mother figure in the form of an older guru type and this staff will be set.
Don't know about his work ethic, but I do know Byron Scott has alot of the same flaws Mike Brown did. Stubborn, one-track coaching style, and after run and gun didn't get it done in Jerz, his pace stats indicate he's become a walk it up, defense-first guy with a stagnant, PnR 4 Life halfcourt offense. Sound familiar?Thats my fav style of ball, so I don't have a problem with that at all, but the organization, team and fanbase certainly do, or Mike Brown would still be the coach. Also, don't underestimate the fact that Bron is close to Kidd, and BFF's with Paul. Quite positive those guys wouldn't give Scott glowing references, since Kidd hated his guts, and Bill Simmons did a piece on how he thought CP3 had mentally turned off Scott.
Again, the first bit of good news so far. None of the coaches on the market are all that impressive...none. I remember reading that Thibs once took over a game for an ejected Doc, and didn't call a timeout or make subs for an entire quarter, lol and...Avery Johnson probably recieved the most brutal coaching beatdown in playoff history against Nellie and the 8th seeded Warriors. At least we got the only guy who knows the secret ingredients for Zenmaster's world famous snake oil.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: Cavaliers to hire Brian Shaw as HC
I like Shaw. I'm curious to see what he does as head coach. I don't think he'll be Zen Master-lite. He has been coaching since his last couple of years on the court, a la Sam Cassell, and he talks to players differently. I think he's one of the few guys who can get through to Bryant when he's at his most stubborn, and if they retain Lebron, that'll be a valuable skill. I also like that he took initiative. Whatever shakes down, it's going to mean something to the guys that he said "I want to coach the Cavs, it doesn't matter who is or isn't in uniform." That shows something. For some reason, I think Shaw will do a good job.Comment

That gif is great.
I'm not trying to say Avery is a bad coach or anything but I still stand by what I said. It's not like the Cavs hired a Vinny Del Negro/Eric Spoelstra type coach with barely any experience. We got a guy that has multiple rings, even if it is as an assistant, and is coming from the best team in the league that also has the greatest coach ever. You can't really go wrong with that.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

Re: Cavaliers to hire Brian Shaw as HC
Windy reports that no offer has been made, although Shaw has emerged as the front runner. They're prolly running it up the chain of command to LeBron while he's out flirting, lol.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

OK, I was trying to hold out hope for you. Now theis @ the Cavs.
Shaw probably realized he was better off waiting for Phil to retire and take over LA's roster than take a gamble on LBJ not coming back to Cleveland."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier
