We do all know we are talking about Allen Iverson...when has he EVER put his ego aside. I guess I will believe it when I see it.

One thing I think he could be really successful at is penetrating when the ball swings his way on the weak side. With Farmar and Artest, the ball gets to the weak side and they almost always take the three or take a step in and pass. With Iverson, he has the skills to penetrate deep enough to get someone else a layup or easy shot while his man is rotating to cover him. He'd have to dedicate himself to tighten up his 3pt shooting to keep the defense honest though.
i wouldn't call him a good defender. i'd say average. he could hound inferior players and try to get steals, but i wouldn't put him on anyone capable and be confident that he won't give up 15 to 20.

You make some very good points Born.

Iverson's productivity depends solely on his attitude, and desire to want to win within the system. Hopefully this is not just smoke and mirrors to get another contract...

I like it. And yes I'd like to see him come back too. I can't say he's one of my favorite players, but he was a joy to watch in his prime and I'd love to see him get a ring. A player of his caliber should not be ringless when they retire.

On the other hand, I think that situation is best for him. On the Lakers, he could focus mostly on the defensive end and the transition game. Iverson's shot seems to be getting worse with time, so I don't know about his ability to spot up, but I do think that the championship habits on the Lakers would force him to step in line.

Playing Devil's Advocate, Iverson hasn't put in 20 mins of good basketball or been in shape in years. Injury and age are bedfellows, and Iverson is caught up with both of them right now. I think more than his scoring, his effort and heart are what he could contribute to a team. Get out there, run get some steals, hustle on D, get the crowd hyped. If he does those things, he has good enough instincts that his offense would come in the clutch, a la Artest in game 7.

He would also add some depth to the Lakers. I think Phil is just too dominant of a personality to let Iverson's madness take over. Would Kobe sign off on that?

Other than the Lakers...I don't know. Part of me is afraid that Iverson is just garbage now. He showed me nothing on the Sixers, and they really needed him to have a flashback. Does Ivey have the work ethic to get into the shape that he needs to be in to succeed in his mid/late 30s?

I agree with most of what you said. The AI of the last 2 years has been a 180 guy without the same quickness and lift. In his prime he was about 160 with a billed weight of 165. 20 lbs on his frame can be a game changer.

Last year in Philly he was decent at times, but never dominant. A big part of that was the offense. Even when he was hot, the offense would often move away from him.

Allen also tried to defer a bit too much. There were times when he just did not appear aggressive. If he found a way to lose the excess bulk, and work on getting the rim more often, he could still be effective. As is, he is just a midrange shooter with the ability to get hot.

Maybe a bit homer here, but what about Boston?
Wouldn't the big 3 and Doc be a good match in the locker for him?
Coming from the bench, get Rondo some rest and play D.

Tmac was carrying too much weight as well. He needed to be about 10-15 lbs lighter.

I'd prefer that he come back to play for anyone except LAL. I don't want him trying to GP a ring.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

He didn't look good last season and what's worse he often seemed withdrawn and hesitant to take over. He needs to get in a better shape, slim down, work on his jumper as the quickness and first step are not there anymore and have sb light a fire under him.

One thing is for sure, Allen Iverson will give you his all when put in right circumstances. Let's hope, this time, the circumstances suit both parts.

It is just a rumor, but : According to one source, there has been rumours floating around that Pat Riley and the Miami Heat are interested in Allen Iverson this upcoming season. If you recall from last year’s free-agency, Miami Heat were one of the top teams trying to sign Iverson.

Apparently, Allen Iverson was seen having a one-on-one chat with Miami boss :
Isaw ALLEN IVERSON AND PAT RILEY at Azul restaurant in Miami!!!! I hurd rumors of AI signing with the Heat now I'm believing it. AI in Miami 3:54 PM Jun 24th via web

Wtf is Pat Riley doing with Allen Iverson in Miami when the draft is going on and the keep D-Wade in Miami Party? Is AI a free agent? 4:04 PM Jun 24th via web

Finally, good news from his camp.

If it has the same results (i.e. the Lakers losing) I'm all for it. I'll sign the contract for him!

I'm always intrigued by Bucks player movement, but it sounds like they're cheaping out on re-signing Ridnour. I bet Iverson would want more.

Plus, he's not a true team PG, especially after he quit on the Grizzlies and 76ers last year (personal problems aside).

My vote is for the Heat or Bobcats.
