I think you're underestimating people's hate of 'look at me, its all about me' mentality of today's athlete.

Well, that mentality is against everything we try to tell each other is right, or teach our kids. Not the best thing to see a role model display this. Regardless of what some think, kids are watching there heroes.Comment

True I'm young, 22 and from a different era, but I think Lebron has earned the ability to self-promote, toot his own horn alittle bit. I mean If he didn't put in the hard work and time to be influential as a role model he wouldn't be on that stage or in that position to influence the lives of the people that admire him.

I thought it was great television and was intrigued the whole time. I mean would you rather find out with a deadline and an announcement or a scroll on the bottom of sportscenter saying that he signed with the Heat, and searching around for whether it's the truth or not.
If your in Cleveland I mean how would you feel walking down a street and some bum just told you "Lebron left" during the middle of the day lol
I don't see how him making an announcement about him leaving actually trumps him leaving, sounds like a cop-out to be furious he left, when Cleveland fans knew he was leaving anyway.
I agree with what someone else here said. Anyone over 30-32 probably has a complete different opinions then the under 28-30 yr olds. I can tell you things have changed over the years, and a lot isnt for the better. One of the reasons the older Legends were so huge, is because of what they represented. Sure, some changed teams at the end(although not all just to win a championship) but thats after they brought a few championships to there team. I trink too many people today are caught up on individual goals and accomplishments, and not on bringing a city a championship. Thats what sports used to always be about. Look at history, look at olympics.......Money and fame has changed pro sportsLast edited by wheelman990; 07-10-2010, 01:52 PM.Comment

I don't recall them having one hour TV specials in prime time to announce their decision.
If he held a regular presser like every other FA in history of sports... I wouldn't have had a single problem with it... but the one hour "look at me" special really put me off.
That's just me, though.http://flotn.blogspot.com

If you are a NBA superstar, you dont need fancey lights, and to toot your own horn. People will be watching. Peyton Manning is a super star, and is in the spotlight a lot, but you dont see him saying hes the best, he has done all there is to do, hes been a champion on every level, etc...Sure he is confident, but he admitts his mistakes, stays humble, and gives credit where its do.
I think the best champions are the ones who let there work TRUELY speak for itself, and stay humble. Thats the kind of guy everyone looks up to...what makes A LEADER.
My role model was always Barry Sanders when I was in high school(92-95), the guy was classy, yet had skills like none other. I know that Sanders knew to himself that he was awesome, but he remained humble, and tried to share the credit with his teamates as best he could. Thats a leader right there. Thats the guy I want leading my team. Championships will come, and even if they dont, I truely believe that if you give 100%: its not if you win or loose, but how you played the game, and how you handled yourself through it all.
Bill Belechek is a great coach, but when I think of him, I think of the coach who brushes people off, and half the time wont shake hands with the opponent coach after the game. Plain sad IMO. Kids are watching. You are in the spotlight, and shaping how Americas future becomes. This is more realistic then some believe.
Same could be said about terrel Owens, Chad Johnson, etc, etc....great players, but not leaders. Not examples.Last edited by wheelman990; 07-10-2010, 02:05 PM.Comment

Everyone can self promote, its easy to do, that doesnt mean its right.

Totally agree on Sanders and Belechek.
One is a guy you want your kids to idolize... the other one is a genius but a total ***.http://flotn.blogspot.com

Why hold the abiltiy to progress in business ventures against these athletes instead of just looking at what they do between the lines? Your putting them on a pedestool they can't stand on.

In the end I guess, Lebron didn't break my heart, I hear all the great stuff he does for kids in his hometown and seen what he's done for that city while he was there. Obviously Lebron also has a selfish, look at me streak. I don't see anything wrong with that, alot of people have it, growing up where I grew up I'm used to people wanting to be recognized for the right or wrong reasons, and an hour-long TV special where he makes an announcement about his decision doesn't make me like Lebron or want to watch Lebron for what he does on the court any less. It also doesn't make me think any less of him as a leader and eventual champion. Lebron leads on the court and his team follows to as far as they can go. Which to this point hasn't been a championship, yet.Last edited by BaselineBakes; 07-10-2010, 02:32 PM.

Out of all these nWo videos how is it that pretty much no one has used Hogan's Voodoo Child theme? As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"Comment

BTW, in watching that last nWo video with the all-star game highlights, something stuck out to me, the East with Bosh, LeBron, and Wade all starting were down by 30 to the West. Just saying.Comment
