    who's second-best?

this is something i was sitting at my desk wondering. i know there are basically agreed upon notions as to who the best players at each position are, with some variance here and there. however, i don't think there is any consensus at all for the #2 spot at any of the positions.

to my recollection, the #1's (by popular opinion) are:

    pg - magic
    sg - michael
    sf - bird
    pf - malone
    c - kareem

    what say you, operation sports?

The only really set #2 is Kobe behind Jordan.

Duncan is clearly the #1 PF, so Malone would probably be #2. Lebron will almost certainly either be the #1 or #2 SF when he's done. Center is a toss up with several people. Kareem, Shaq, Wilt, Russell, or Hakeem could all be #1 or #2.

      Re: who's second-best?

I say Tim Duncan is the best at PF and Bill Russell is the best at C. Having said that:

      #1s:

      PG - Magic Johnson
      SG - Michael Jordan
      SF - Larry Bird
      PF - Tim Duncan
      C- Bill Russell

      #2s:

      PG - Oscar Robertson
      SG - Kobe Bryant
      SF - John Havlicek
      PF - Karl Malone
      C - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

I don't think you can put the big O at point though. The PG spot is a tough one to line up behind Magic, while the center spot is just tough from top to (all time great) bottom.

i always think of oscar as a small forward. basically, he was the first point forward.
