The winning bidder for the Warriors could be announced as early as Tuesday. All indications are that Oracle software billionaire Larry Ellison, in tandem with the team's current minority ownership will be the next owner of the Golden State Warriors.

Comcast SportsNet Bay Area contacted an individual familiar with the negotiations, seeking confirmation of a report from a national publication that the decision could come sometime Tuesday.

"That may be true," the person said of the sale, declining the opportunity to comment in detail.

An NBA source said Tuesday that he'd heard as recently as two days ago Ellison and the minority owners had emerged as the front-runner.

A Warriors source said that Mandalay Entertainment Group chairman Peter Guber was the other finalist. Also involved in that group is Joe Lacob, currently a minority owner of the Boston Celtics.

Early Tuesday afternoon, a Bay Area-based source with knowledge of the bidding process, said that he'd be surprised if Ellison's group did not come out on top.

Later Tuesday a separate Warriors source said that while negotiations are close to being finalized it's premature to assume the deal will be ready by day's end. The source could not confirm Ellison would be the new owner.

The initial report about the pending announcement came from a Twitter post of Sports Business Journal reporter Daniel Kaplan, indicating the group that will purchase the team from current owner Chris Cohan will receive word of their winning bid before the end of the day.

Shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday, Kaplan posted the following on his Twitter account: "Golden State Warriors winner should be chosen by end of the day I am hearing."

Cohan was in Las Vegas on Monday, and apparently was scheduled to fly to Southern California sometime Tuesday.

The four prominent bidding groups included the Ellison consortium, Guber, a group headed by Mark Mastrov, founder of 24_hour Fitness, and Wall Street moneyman David Bonderman.

Messages were left on the cell phone of Cohan and calls were placed to members of the Warriors organization.

YES!!!! Warriors are finally headed in the right direction. With Curry, Ellis, and Lee they have a good solid foundation to build upon and with a new owner and new coach (hopefully), maybe they can stop being the laughing stock of the league.

Read that Larry Ellison is not the new owner, the new owner is that other group. They sold for 450 million.

Joe Lacob, managing partner at private equity firm Kleiner Perkins, and Peter Guber, chairman of Mandalay Entertainment, have won the bid for the NBA's Golden State Warriors, a source close to the sale has told CNBC.

The price for the team is $450 million, beating the previous NBA record—$401 million, which was the amount Robert Sarver paid for the Phoenix Suns in 2004.

Lacob and Guber beat out rival bidder Larry Ellison, chief executive officer of Oracle.

The sale was brokered by Galatioto Sports Partners, which has been involved in the recent sale of the Charlotte Bobcats and Chicago Cubs.
