That sums up Lamar perfectly..Always been an issue of motivation with him it seems.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

Lamar uses his talents just enough to where if LA loses, he takes the blame, and thats the truth, so his credit lies somewhere in between there.

There's only two people in LA that really get credit, and that's Phil and Kobe. Most other things the role players do get overlooked.

Pau Gasol almost single handedly won them game 7...I think people realise LA is a hell of a team and that Kobe has the best support in the NBA.

          Pau
          Lamar
          Ron

That's a hell of a nice supporting crew.

Kind of an out there opinion, considering the entire playoffs they talked about the Lakers' length inside and Ron's defense on Pierce and Durant.

Although, he is more athletic than Dirk. Hell, I think it is kinda weird that the Lakers let him push the ball up the court like he is a guard, though. You dont see many teams that let a PF or a C do that.
I mean we BOTH know that we shouldn't compare Dirk's and Lamar's outside games. That would be silly.
My impression of Lamar Odom is that the guy very often lacks effort and like others said is inconsistent as hell. To me he has his own shell on the hardwood that he doesn't want to get out of because he feels comfortable in it.

Odom does all the little things: rebounds that extremely important offensive rebound, tips in for a crucial basket, little block here, nice assist there. If you expect him to be the Clippers-days Odom + experience, forget about it. But if you see all the little things he does for the Lakers, he's a very important player in the playoffs.

You are reaching quite a bit.

As a Laker fan, I don't give Lamar Odom credit because he only uses his full talents about five games a year. He has a chance to be one of the best players on the court every night, there is no way he shouldn't be a full time starter, but he chooses to take damn near every night off instead of contributing to his team. He is a matchup nightmare, but he'd rather be passive then aggressive. You can tell within his first few minutes on the court whether he is jerking around or came to play.

Re: Why do people not give Lamar Odom enough credit?

He just never developed into that superstar that everyone thought he would be. He was one of the top high school players in the class of 1997, which was loaded. Then he had to sit out a year in 1997-98 after that SAT scandal or whatever it was, the reason why he never played a game at UNLV.

Good thing for him that he sat out a year and never turned pro, because if he did he would have been long gone by now. He ended up at Rhode Island playing for Jim Harrick, and based on the way he played there I had him pegged as a sure fire NBA all star.

But like so many have said in this thread already, he has been way too inconsistent. He does a lot of things well, but he doesn't do anything great on the NBA level to be that guy that can carry a team. Everyone has been waiting for him to get over that hump and break out with the Clippers, didn't happen. Didn't happen during the year he spent in Miami, and was part of the Shaq trade.

No one really talks about him being a disappointment in LA though because he is winning championships. Every so often he steps up and has a big game. Overall he has had a solid career as a contributor on championship teams. I'd rather be that than maybe developing into an all star on the Clippers and spending my whole career there.

Couldnt you say this about Dirk? I mean, he has been criticized so much for mostly shooting outside shots instead of getting aggressive and consistently driving to the paint.

Beasley is kind of like this in the sense that he has all the skills to be great he just has to get his head into it and work hard.
