How the heck do you figure Portland won't make it? They made it last year when B. Roy had his knee all torn up and Oden missed the year and Pryz missed the year.

Memphis and NO's are long shots as they really did nothing to improve their rosters. Even with a health CP3, he's going to have a tough time carrying that subpar roster.

I would say the Grizz got a chance if they can get some decent PG play. They got a good young roster. A 10 win improvement isn't much of a stretch. They need Mayo to be big for them this year.

Well yeah I wouldn't be shocked to see Memphis make it, but I'm curious as to how Portland wouldn't get in. Also I wouldn't count on Mayo.

Problem is out West, I think the first 7 spots are set:

LA, Dallas, OKC, Denver, SA, Portland, Houston

PHX and Utah are still strong playoff possibilities. Clippers will have a healthy Blake Griffin, Sacramento is looking to make a step, Hornets get CP3 back, and GS could run and gun their way to an 8th seed.

                    Houston for sure.

New Orleans? No way. I like Thornton, but I don't see how anyone can put the Hornets about the Jazz or even the Suns, who I still like despite losing Amar'e.

Not sure I would put Houston as a lock just yet but the rest I would agree.

I also agree that I don't see Portland NOT making it unless Roy or Aldridge miss ample time this year, which with Portland is a possibility.

Hornets are a 35-39 win team with CP3 and that roster they have right now, no way they are making it. Golden State is a long shot but I do like the addition of David Lee, with them it is just a mattter of can they defend anyone. And the answer is usually no. It will have to be a collective home run effort if the Warriors want to crack the Top 8, assuming that 50 games is a must to get in in the West. Which they haven't done the past decade, don't see them starting now. Unless they pull a 2008 and sneak in with 48.

If Yao plays at least 65 or so games Houston will make the playoffs. I don't know how one could argue against that.

PHX and Utah are still fully capable of winning 45+ games even with losing their PF's.

Memphis will have to get lucky to get in, basically hope that a few teams suffer major injuries and Memphis will have to stay healthy.

We know Cleveland and Toronto are going to be lottery teams this year in the East so there will be at least two new playoff teams in the East. I think it'll be Washington and New York.

As far as the East goes in my eyes there are 6 locks

Miami, Boston, Orlando, Chicago, Atlanta, Milwaukee

The last two seeds might be two new teams. I like Washington and Philly.
