    Not true.

Rockets officials report that Yao — who is back in China for his annual charity game — is entirely on track to start training camp and the season on time.
    That is from today.

Also, If the Rockets have Yao for a good portion of the season. They will make the playoffs, I think finishing 4th like they usually have with a healthy Yao this season. Even higher since Kevin Martin and now a actual backup Center.

The bigger question is...will Yao play in the Fiba tourney next month? I really hope not, everybody that is somebody is skipping on that thing it seems.

Let's not go nuts now. But they will make the playoffs if they've got him back to normal and healthy for at least 50 games.

I don't really see how that's nuts. They have pretty much finished every year 4th or 5th since 2004. Of course not last year but...didn't have Yao last year either.

Also those previous years except the 09 season, they had no depth at all. It was basically Tmac and Yao and no one else. Now it is completely the opposite. Every single spot is filled with a quality player.

        Brooks/Lowry
        Martin/Battier/ Jermaine Taylor
        Ariza/Chase
        Scola/Hayes/Patterson/Hill/Jeffries
        Yao/Brad

I don't see how it is crazy to say that team can finish with homecourt in the first round, especially not if Yao is playing how good he was playing last time we saw him. I feel a lot of people easily forget how good he was, it was pretty much stop Yao from getting the ball...or else he would score. Go back and look at his FG%s for that year.

The only question is if Yao's injury will affect his game any way...and since Yao was never really too agile or quick to begin with I don't think it will cripple his game in any way.

My guess is Yao won't be back to Yao form till spring.

I agree they could finish in the four seed, but I don't see them finishing higher. One, two and three are more than likely going to be Lakers, Thunder, Mavs/Nuggets in whatever order you wanna say. I don't see the Rockets being better than any of them, possibly Denver because of how high school they can be from time to time, but definitely don't see them finishing higher than four.

So he'll be injured by the spring?

Well that's fair, of course i'm going to be a lot more optimistic. While I do think it will take some time for Yao to go back to being Yao and unstoppable in the post. I think the strentgh of the team will be there for when he's not. I also think Kevin Martin will play much better, as a fan I am expecting Rockets to finish 4th but I wouldn't be surprised at a 3rd seed.

I really don't feel the Mavs or Nuggets are clearly better than us. They both have their premier players in Melo and Dirk...and have depth just like the Rox. Not saying Rockets are better than those two, I just don't see them clearly better than us.

Yes! So happy to hear this isn't true.

With a healthy Yao they can be at least a 2nd round team again. I hope they mesh, I want to see new contenders in Houston and OKC! With Portland also throwing their weight around.

I'm kind of tired of Dallas/SA and Denver has a bunch of knuckle heads.
