No surprise - since ESPN is LeBron's network. Honestly, I'm not gonna get off on a rant here, but ESPN has participated in the "MTV-ization" of sports for the past decade+ to a degree that I have zero - zip, zilch, nada - respect for them. They're the National Enquirer sports division. They're in the business of inventing news, not reporting it.

I agree mostly. ESPN is naturally a shill for any athlete or team that is a major draw. They'll dance between exploiting the story and protecting their "relationship" with these stars.

I think it's not so much that they invent the news as much as it is they put their spin out their and let all us ravenous fans run with it in every possible direction. The fans are at least as much to blame (sometimes I think maybe more) as it's been proven that such nonsense sells. Not anymore professional of course...lol...but that's my take.

I'd say you're pretty on the mark with that post.

Still, they do surprise you. Them asking Lebron how he he felt seeing Cavs fans burning his jersey wasn't something I'd expect them to do on "HIS" hour long special.

Bob Ley and Outside the Lines is an island of class and integrity surrounded by the sea of crass, MTV style sports reporting and favoritism that just makes me sick.

Thankfully sports reporting hasn't and probably never will get that bad in Canada.

I thought you posted that article that was pulled off the ESPN site? I think that may explain the couple of hardball questions (more like major league change ups rather than Gray's softballs).

My guess is none of them were happy that Gray was getting to start the interview and ask "the question" since he's got nothing to do with ESPN. Even worse, he went over his allotted time and number of questions and there was nothing ESPN could do. After that I think the gloves were off a bit, but they weren't going to go TOO far since they still want to have more Lebron love in the future.

ESPN???? Not surprising.

Sports is becoming something where I think I would be better served just watching the games and ignoring everything else.
