A true superstar is a player that excels on both the offensive and defensive side of of the court. This player must be a go to scorer who can score in numerous fashions and his man defense must be adequate. This player needs to conduct himself like a winner in the games and practices. It is absolutely crucial that the superstar lifts his teammates to heights they could not reach on their own.

Bosh does not satisfy that criteria. He is a great elbow jump shooter and a good driver. But, he cannot transcend an opposing defense with his own offense.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. Threads like these are why i *HATE* words like "superstar". Everyone on this board has a different definition of what "superstar" means and being a superstar isn't something that can be quantified by anything specific as everyone has their own criteria for what it constitutes. This is why i prefer terms like "all-star player" or "all-NBA player". Chris Bosh IS an all star player and Chris Bosh HAS made an All-NBA team, those are easily determined by looking at appearances and honors on Basketball-Reference.com or Wiki.

Bottom line is Chris Bosh put up 24 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block while shooting 52% from the floor and 80% from the line those are spectacular numbers, even more so when considering the dearth of big men that has hobbled the league the the last decade.

Putting up statistics on bad teams is quite easy (especially in today's NBA). There is nothing subjective about Bosh's game, he is all finesse and no power and he feasts on mediocre defenders. When defended by a quick or strong man (like a Garnett) Bosh looks intimidated, confused, and his game suffers drastically.

The only statistics that matter are wins and losses. The reality is that Bosh is an average star which is exactly why the Raptors were an average team.

His style of play might not be subjective but his standing in the league is. Superstar isn't determined by any number of statistics or awards, its a marketing tactic. Thats why everyone has a different way of determining if someone is a "superstar". I think maybe the best way of quantifying whether or not someone is a superstar might just be to think of it like marketing,and look at how well known is player X to the average/casual fan and non-fan. This is why I like the term "All-Star" better I can look at a something that will, without fail tell me whether player X is or is not an all star player.

No. The idea that a player needs to appeal to the fans is way off the mark. Studying a players game will without fail tell you whether he is a superstar or not. Provided you are looking for the right traits.

But he is a star in this league. And a top 3-5 players at his position.

To me basically he is in the same situation as when Pau Gasol went to the Lakers via trade.

bosh is a very good player, who was able to accumulate good statistics on a team that was never successful. he has never proven to be a winner in his career, both professionally and in college, and has a skillset that is tailor-made for being a second or third option.

he is, in no way, a superstar, he's a very good player who was able to get numbers on a team where he was the best guy.

This isn't Chris Bosh hate. It's just a friendly debate. I understand the Gasol comparison. Here's the thing though. Gasol had played in big games over in Spain. I know it's not the NBA but it's something. Chris Bosh has literally won NOTHING. Plus, there was no parade and celebration when Gasol arrived.

As far as the top 5 argument. Chris Bosh is top 5 at his position statistically. And even that is with a grain of salt because he was playing on a bad team. Even the worst team in the NBA is going to score 80-85 points a night. If you're that teams best player and the offense revolves around your skill set then you will score 20+ on accident. I know he didn't have a good supporting cast but there is something to be said about being the best guy on a team that always loses. After a while, 7 years is a while, don't we have to assume that he carries some of that weight.

Frankly, if you're trying to win then Chris Bosh is not top 5 at his position. Duncan, KG, Boozer, Gasol, Dirk are all guys I'd rather have if I have to win a game.

I would say Chris is a hair behind Pau but yes Pau has proved to be a legit Robin over the past three years. He's one of the most skilled players the league has.

What the hell has Boozer ever done except not play defense and disappear in the playoffs? How is he superior to Chris is any way? If anything they are about the same level, which in my opinion Chris is a better player through and through.

i think he's a very good player, but to call him a superstar is to do him and actual superstars a disservice. he's a very good player, though, and it's not a knock against him that he's not an elite player.
