Anybody else notice how Tony Parker (and any other young European player that I can recall) never gets mentioned in a conversation about this subject?

The way young players are brought up in European sports is quite different than the way Americans are brought up. Promising young players are put into youth academies where they go to school and receive the top coaching available(vs. high school coaching in the US, which is often rubbish). By the time a player over there is 18, he is able to deal with the media, act like a professional player, and usually doesn't end up on the police report.

So are you arguing against having an age limit or what?

Yeah I notice that too but young players in Europe play about 3 years in a proffesional league by the time they're 18, while by the time Americans are 18 , they have played 4 years against 5'5 10th graders

Keep in mind that an age limit will also be enforced for international players as well as American ones, whether they are more professionally experienced or not.

                  I can't remember...was Steve Smith ever an All-star??

Strange he got so much hype, and I don't think he was ever selected.

And Shawn Kemp. Shiiiiiiiiiiiit...biggest fall from grace in pro sports history.

Smith was an all-star back with the Hawks in '98.

Shawn Kemp was the reason I got into basketball in the first place. His size, athleticism, and creativity in the air amazed me at the time and I was instantly hooked away from boring baseball and into hoops. Part of my name Sonicmage comes from when I used to be a Sonics fan in high school. Deep inside, I miss the spectacular athlete hiding underneath all that gin and blubber.
