Scoring is the least of their concerns. They have three-point shooters on the bench and that makes up a lot of points.

Defense. Yea, that's what separates this team from the elite.

SCORING was the knicks problem??? Thats news to me. I thought it was the whole we dont believe in defense thing. Silly me.

Well to be fair, he did say scoring OFF the bench and not necessarily saying scoring was the Knicks(as a whole)problem. But I don't think it will be AS big a problem as long Melo and Amar'e are scoring 30+ each.

Now, that thing they do where they chase the opposing player with the ball(no idea what they call it up there but I'm sure most Knick Fans do as well and that's not shot at them)that's going to a problem, as if it wasn't already.

The 2nd unit scoring will improve because one of the two starters will be in there with them. Before, the Knicks would be stalling for time and jacking threes until Amare came in. Now they can always field a team with someone who demands a double team. The guys they traded were all starters anyway, save for Moz who just broke the rotation recently. The bench will be the same until Az returns.

Chandler was on and off starting. Mostly just because we had a logjam at sf. He wasn't really the typical instant offense type 6th man, there was just no room for him in the lineup without putting Amare at center. Not too worried about scoring off the bench. The downgrade in depth of scorers is more than offset by the fact we can have at least 1 superstar in the game at all times now.

Defense is the issue. Chandler is a good defender, and Gallo at least cares about playing defense. Mozgov wasn't a consistent force in the paint, but maybe in the future. I do think Melo can defend ok when he wants to though. I'm sure he'll be very motivated the rest of this year.

Scoring off the bench? It might be a problem, but not big enough to the point where you don't do the trade or you remark "well they're sure thin now". Not to mention Kelenna Azubuike will be returning shortly.

They in essence traded Chandler's offense off the bench for Brewer's defense off the bench.

I don't see the problem. I don't see how NY is thinner than they were before other than losing the extremely raw Mosgov, who hardly played a role in NY's season up to date. I don't see how NY got raped either, as some people are claiming.

People need to slow down with all that.

You roll the dice in this situation, nothing wrong with that.

Yeah, bench scoring is a huge plus. Just ask Miami, Chicago and Boston how they are doing in that stat. It's obviously doing wonders in Philly.

The Knicks could trade Billups and Fields along with a pick or get a 3rd team involved. There are ways to do this

If the NBA took control of the NO franchise to help get them out the gutter and keep them relevant, a deal like that would be completely counterproductive to the cause. The thought of cp3 in NY with those two would be something. A pg like him would allow the knicks to throw a heat-like supporting cast around them and he would be able to squeeze blood out of those turnips....

Where did you even find bench scoring stats? I would have thought Boston would be up there with all the threats they have coming off the bench.

Edit: I don't think Bench Points per game is really a good stat. I think it's more about having guys that CAN score off the bench. If your bench is the highest scoring bench in the league, there's a decent chance your starters are among the worst, whereas a team like Boston might not be among the leaders in Bench Points per game, but they have Shaq/Perkins (whichever guy doesn't start), Big Baby, Nate Robinson, Delonte West, Marquis Daniels, etc.

Without Kurt "Big Sexy" Thomas the Bulls would have been doomed...

Bulls though are getting decent scoring of the bench but it looks more then it really is because Bogans (3 PPG) starts. But everyone that comes of the bench plays great defense but that is more attributed to Thib's system.

I don't hate this trade anymore. I just hope that Walsh wasn't lying when he said that he believes they will have cap space in 2012.
