on the flipside the Nets won't give up Lopez and Favors, probably one but not both.

    A more likely deal is:
    Favors
    james
    ross
    morrow and/or murphy
    picks

    for

    J.R. Smith

Why wouldn't it? And in this situation it would be an extension anyway in all likelihood.

You are absolutely right. Players always win CBA negotiations.

Wait a minute, players win strike negotiations roughly never.
I didn't say they PA would win it but they max deal isn't going to be capped at $10m a year or something.

        Melo being 'financially ****ed'?

Relative to Rashard Lewis, LeBron, David Lee, Kobe etc. etc., I guess, yes he might get the short end of the stick for what he actually 'deserves' if a new CBA occurs, but no, he would be just fine with whatever contract he gets . He still has his endorsements and whatever money he's already made. He might lose out on some millions, but I somehow doubt he'll feel it in his wallet

Melo has a lot of say in this scenario, where as Denver isn't exactly screwed either. Denver will get two or three young prospects and at least one or two first round picks. Melo will have the last word on where he goes since no team is foolish enough to trade for him without him signing an extension immediately.

If I'm the Nets, I'd give up Favors and T-Will and some picks. I'm not sure that will be enough. With Melo, Harris and Lopez as the cornerstones, watch out. If they would add a piece like a Bynum type big, move BL to the 4, they'd be straight for a long time.

besides we have an extremely rich owner, and are going to brooklyn with arguably the greatest arena in the NBA(yes that includes MSG) Why do a standard rebuilding process which takes years when you can be a big market team and just sign great players

no offense but i think you're blinded by the dank dope your smoking
Yea we had an extremely rich owner this year and what exactly did that get us? Great players need a reason to come here and what reason do we have other than "OMG WE HAVE MONEYSSSS$$$!!!!!11!!"

That's the same crap they're spitting on NetsDaily but people keep forgetting we were the worst team in Basketball last year. Yea of course the realistic fans know what played a role in that and that we weren't as bad as our record indicated but when you're trying to bring in top flight player, to them all they're gonna see is "This team went 12-70 last year, why should I want to go there".

Remember, we had a "Big 3" last time and what exactly did that get us?

I hope the Nets offer something like

                    either Murphy/Harris
                    Humphries
                    Ross
                    $3 Million
Draft picks(we have the most in the next 3 years)

They could replace Ross with James if they want.
I'd keep Murphy since we have no replacement for him since Favors isn't ready to start right away.

And any deal that for some reason involves Lopez should be turned down immediately.

Williams, James, Draft Picks, Expiring Contracts and Cash is what I'd offer for Melo and then Denver could start rebuilding their team with that and still have a young core of Lawson, Williams, and James. Either way if we some how still get him, we'd still be a middle of the pack team still behind the nWo, Orlando, Boston and Chicago as well.

I totally agree any trade offers that involve Lopez. Should be rejected! Might possible be a top 2-3 center in the league right now. Your not going to find that any where. Don't get me wrong...Melo is good...But not worth it.

agreed. How high of ceiling does Favor have? is it high enough that it doesn't even make sense trading him?

Of all teams mentioned I like what NJ or DAL could offer to both DEN & Carmelo.

                            1.
                            - DAL gets: Carmelo & Smith
                            - DEN gets: Butler & Chandler & picks & $3 mill in cash.
They get to proven and productive players whom will address their weaknesses as they also get rid of Smith. They also obtain an enourmous cap flexibility by next year.
                            - MELO gets: To play with an outstanding starting 5 of Kidd, Smith, Nowitski, Haywood plus Terry, Beauvois, Marion and others of the bech. He also gets more net incomes with no taxes.

                            2.
                            - NJ gets: Carmelo & Billups.
They would have to sign a PF, maybe Admudson, who has range.
                            - DEN gets: Harris & Murphy & Williams & Favors & Jones & picks.
They obtain an incredible amount of players with upside, all shooters whom will flourish under their current offensive schemes. They also get good cap flexibility by next year.
                            - MELO gets: To play with a starting 5 of Billups & Morrow & Humphries/FA & Lopez and within the East Conference. He also would be near NY, if not there within a few years when the arena gets built.

I just hope something gets done quickly, be it with such teams or not.

If this was 2 years ago, I'd take Billups but right now...nah I'm good. Hell, if we give up all that I don't see how it makes us that much better than what he's on right now in Denver. With Billups, Melo, Humphries(WTF), Morrow, and Lopez we'd basically be the 2nd coming of the Hawks in that we'd just be a middle of the pack team and then just get embarrassed by the Big 3-4 teams in the Playoffs(assuming we make it).
