Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga
A huge one ... LBJ never ever expressed his intention to leave CLE, at least not when he was within a contract ... Melo, has openly requested a trade while being under contract ... not that one is worse than the other (I have my own take on that) but that they are entirely different ... also Melo isnt the first franchise player to do such request.
Anyways, I have always believe that when such things happen, the best is to part ways as the relationship is never the same ... it reminds me LA case a few years back, thus to me, the Kobe situation resulted in the exception of the rule rather than what it is normal.Comment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga
'melo isn't hamstringing the front office by not letting them know where he stands. lebron was telling the organization to make decisions independent of him, despite being the center piece of their present and, hopefully, of their future. to plan around him without knowing his intentions was impossible. at least 'melo has made it clear that he doesn't wish to come back so they can plan accordingly.xbox gt - bmorerep87

You can't directly compare CLE to DEN in this situation.
First off, Denver has much more talent than CLE ever has in the LBJ era.
Cleveland wasn't being "hamstrung" by James, let's face it, without James nobody would go there anyway. So don't even give me that BS.
Second, Cleveland really had not much room to maneuver anyway in terms of making much change to their roster. Getting Shaq for a one year rental is hardly a big deal, he's gone now.
Trading for a supposed "All-Star" in Jamison for nothing more than a 2nd round pick is a no-brainer for a team that needed help in any fashion.
LeBron had good reason to not "make his intentions clear that he didn't want to stay in CLE". After all his team did have some success over the past two seasons LMAO.
He just wanted to see if he could finally break through and get a ring with that average team, but alas he couldn't. Mo/Jamison are OK but really they needed one more of that caliber player and really LBJ never got a true Robin in his 7 years in CLE.
Trying to compare Melo situation to James just doesn't compute.Comment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga
You were also trying to insinuate that Melo is doing his organization better by trying to get out of his contract. I personally wouldn't go that far, I see it more towards the side of he quit.
Bottom line I really don't see anything that wrong with what Melo is doing, if he knows he's going to leave so be it and at least Denver can begin looking now.
However there's no way in hell I'm about to give him any credit for doing this if in fact he has privately asked for a trade.Comment

While trying to insinuate that James was hamstringing the front office. Also tried to paint him in a certain shade, not a positive one. There was no reason for LBJ to ask for a trade. His team looked just as dominant as any other team in the conference. It's not hard to build around James anyway, LOL. Apparently Ferry and company couldn't figure it out when his best Robin in Cleveland was Larry Hughes and Mo Williams.

i prefer a player that lets you know before the season "hey, i'm pretty much going to leave no matter what unless something crazy happens, so you guys might as well trade me and get what you can." to one that says "i can't say i'm leaving or i'm staying, so do what you can to help us win today, but i don't know if i'll be here tomorrow."xbox gt - bmorerep87

Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga
I think it had to do with how dependent the city of Cleveland really was on LeBron, I mean he was basically there economy and the only hope the only warm spot in an other wise cold city.
In addition he was an Akron kid(and by extension Cleveland) his whole life, and he didn't have the respect to notify Cleveland of his intentions so that at the very least they could've started making moves, and his whole decision was completely egocentric and had no class.
i mean how you can compare the two in severity is more laughable than saying they are on different levels.
IMO is if he went somewhere were he wasn't with another superstar or two(Nets, Knicks, basically not Miami) most people wouldn't be as mad as they areComment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga
Sorry for the double post, but why do GM's give into these trade-me demands? I mean if they don't play, don't they get heavily fined and it makes them look bad?
you don't hear about these kinds of situation nearly as much in other sports(i think, at least I haven't noticed any of it)Comment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga
I'm not sure they give in a majority of the time?
Melo will play the season he's not threatening to sit out.
I don't remember a time in any sport when a player has ever sat out a season.Comment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga
I was just asking a question.
But I can understand why some GM give into sign and trades or (trades for that matter). Because since they is no hope of getting the player to resign. Its better to at least come away with something. Instead of being left empty handed and trying to rebuild.
Its the same reason the Raps and Cevs final give in to LeBron's and Bosh's sign and trade. Because the players had made pretty clear that they weren't returning.
Why are people saying LeBron never gave Cavs a chance to return is beyond me? lol
But to me the situation is exactly the same. You have 2 high profile players. Who have always been big time winners on every level of basketball since young childhood (12-15) Championships. These guys just want to win.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga
Lebron was a free agent and had fulfilled his contract.
Carmelo has not and is being a punk. He's in the last year of his contract and unlikely to resign most places so it's not like Denver will actually get decent value for him unless it comes down to a bidding war between 2 teams that he will resign with.
I can guarantee that any realistic Cavs fan would far prefer their 60 win season, MVP, and picks to whatever mediocre package would have been offered for a non-extended Lebron.Last edited by Cebby; 09-01-2010, 12:53 PM.Comment
