Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga
GarPax should trade Deng, Noah, and a first round pick for him, I guess the hold up is the Bulls not wanting to part with Noah, but if that's what it takes to get closer, do it (I like Noah and what he has done, but he's no Melo, we can find the rebounds elsewhere).... or if it get's late and the Nugs just need to get something instead of losing Melo and getting nothing, see if Deng, Taj Gibson and a first round pick would get it done... throw James Johnson in on any of those trades if you must... How would a starting five of Rose, Brewer, Melo, Gibson and Boozer be? and if you could somehow keep Noah as well? He would be the center and Gibson would probably be gone. See ya... My point is, everyone on the roster should be made available except Rose, now I know Denver doesn't want Boozer's knees and contract, so he is out of the equation... but if I am a GM, that's how I would approach this... 25 points, 6 boards, and 3 assists per game from one guy isn't something I could pass upNicholas JamesComment

I know this is all speculation on my part, but if you're Chicago, you have to think long term. Get Melo and plug in a decent 5 who can rebound and block shots (Dampier or Mbenga type) as a stop gap until free agency or the draft and roll with that.
There's also reports that it is Chicago who won't part with Noah. I guess it all depends on what "sources" you trust.Comment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga
To be fair, for the folks who think we ****ed this one up, might wanna take a look at the newbie over there in Denver because we did something that we probably wouldn't have even done if Thorn was still here. Denver's GM reportedly put out there what he was looking for and when we called his bluff and offered what he was reportedly looking for, he got scared and wanted to put this on hold but if talks were never that serious, it would have never even gotten this far.
In this day and age of professional sports, when you're trying to move a superstar or potential superstar in his prime, you're never, EVER going to get equal value in return no matter how GOOD or GREAT that player is. You can get CLOSE(that definition is for you to decide) but folks need to realize that this is how it's going to be and Denver's GM doesn't realize this but that's understandable since he's pretty much "new" in this game for the most part but eventually most of this stuff he will learn about.
But again, for the folk or folks who think that this our fault that this didn't go thru, that isn't the case in this one.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga
Well... he proved me wrong. He handled this situation horribly, got greedy, had a great package from NJ (getting exactly what they wanted), but wanted even more. He's burned bridges with Melo, and other teams. It's to the point where he's going to walk to NY or get traded there later for nothing (which kills me as a Rockets fan). With more teams less likely to deal with Denver and Anthony no longer willing to work with Denver (thus shortening his list of teams he'll sign the extension with), Denver is screwed (and NY benefits). Trust me, I definitely blame Denver.Last edited by Streets; 09-29-2010, 08:59 PM.Comment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga
I was just going to post that given the situation that Denver's new GM has been put in, no one would blame or judge him no matter how this situation turned out, because, well... it's a a bad situation. Basically I figured, they'd get what they could and he could begin to be judged based on everything he does after.

Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga
Although the proposed deal would have furnished Denver with two future first-rounders and Favors -- satisfying many of the prerequisites it established when it began fielding offers for Anthony earlier this month -- Kroenke's 2010-11 payroll would have increased by $4.8 million, which would force the Nuggets to spend an extra $9.6 million (including luxury-tax penalties) to become a worse team.Comment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga
Yup.
Dude wanted to cut payroll but remain competitive in the West and not start rebuilding already. He basically tried to have it both ways but they need to realize that's now how it works.
You either keep him and build around him, even if it might not be enough to get him to stay past this year or you move him, get what you can for him and start the rebuild process right now, which at this point is all but inevitable. NJ tried to do this with the whole Kidd, RJ, Carter Project when it was obvious it wasn't going to work and instead of letting them take up most of the payroll and/or be a distraction while they were here, they decided to move them and get what they can for them, which looking at it now they got back some nice value from each of them.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga
Plus, you get Melo plus extension. There's no guarentee that Noah re-ups with Chicago, as he'll probably look for a max contract (and some team will be stupid enough to give him close to that). Who's the greater value? Melo locked up for a max deal or Noah at a near max?
