Re: Best Agrees to deal in Principle with Mavs
I still don't like Dallas' offseason moves.
Van Excel carried them in the playoffs and was guaranteed scoring off the bench. Best does not provide this, and I'm not seeing a Best/Nash backcourt like they had with Van Excel.
Sure you can how good Jamison is, and all that. But what they should of added was defense and more rebounding. Jamison or Best provides neither of them.

The Mavs got younger, bigger, and deeper with this trade. Essentially, it was Van Exel for Jamison and Fortson. Van Exel was as clutch in the playoffs as i have ever seen anyone, but he is too good to sit on the bench. He isnt getting any younger and when they had to play Nash and Van Exel at the same time, it hurt on the defensive end.
It was the perfect trade for Dallas right now. If only they would have signed Zo.Comment

You know, I didn't think much of that trade either, with the Warriors. But I'm kinda feelin it now. I think Best is a good pickup for the Mavs. They don't need two PG's running around out there playing small ball in the backcourt, the way Nick and Nash did it. Best isn't as much of a scorer for sure, but he is more of a true PG. So, the only thing he does is let Nash rest more. That is the only point. Finley is back at his more natural 2 spot, so it'll mostly be him and Nash back there most of the time. Jamison is now locked at the 3, which is great for this team. They have legit players from 1 thru 4. Not many teams can say that. And they have enough big men to work around their 5 spot. The Mavs did themselves good IMO. They just need to gel asap and get on the same page. Nellie will make it work. He does that as well as anybody in the L.
Oh, and about the defense and rebounding, I think Jamison and Fortson will help with the boards. And as for D, there is no one out there that can help them with that. They just have to get better from within.
