Does he have some kind of contractual obligation to play for China also?

Aye this would be horrible for the Rockets as they seem to be building this team around Yao to be the guy in the middle of a team full of playmakers. If Yao didn't have to play for China I'd have him rest up but knowing these things he probably won't have that option.

Yep, that was the condition for letting him play in the NBA. He plays all year long, including several flights between China and USA.

                        Re: Yao Might Retire?

I'm hoping last year's fatigue was just Yao hitting the rookie "wall" and being tired from going straight from int'l play to the NBA.

I was hoping that he would put on some weight in a couple of years and break the backboard on Shaq's head, but that seems out of the question now.

I hope Van Gundy takes the proper precautions and Steve Francis helps Yao on the court instead of freezing him out as he did last year cuz Yao in the real "Franchise" on the Rockets.

maybe if he wasn't hooked up to the chinese government then he would have less stress. He's got to deal with the nba life AND life under a communist govt. I bet they demand a ton out of him.
