What position do you want your franchise player to play?
Last year, I asked the board what position was the most important. The general consensus was that the most important position is wherever the best player on that teams plays, and to build around him. So now I'm asking, all things equal, what position do you want the guy that you are building your franchise around to play? And what skills would you like him to have at that position (defensive minded, great floor general, passing big man, etc.)?43Point Guard0%4Shooting Guard0%6Small Forward0%3Power Forward0%6Center0%24Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

I'd like to see someone make an argument for any position other than center. Throughout the history of the NBA the center position has always been the easiest to build a team into a contender around. I honestly can't see a debate with this. I'd want my center to be the focal point of the offense and a defensive anchor like Kareem, Walton, or Olajuwon. As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!" -

Re: What position do you want your franchise player to play?
I'd want a prolific scorer.
Of the top-30 in all-time total points, 13 of the 30 are 1's, 2's, and 3's. Jordan and Wilt are the only ones to have avg'd 30/gm over their careers.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

so you would want a shooting guard?
and 1,2,and 3's may average more points, but 4, and 5's shoot a higher percentage and play a bigger role in defense.Comment

Re: What position do you want your franchise player to play?
So you'd want a 4 or 5? Because those numbers say that power forwards and centers make up for 17 of those 30. I guess I don't really understand what position you would want, or are you just saying position doesn't matter, as long as they are an elite scorer?Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: What position do you want your franchise player to play?
A big post presence in the paint, at either the 4 or 5 spot. Guys like Shaq, Dwight, & Yao. That'd be the ideal focal point if I were coaching a team.Comment

Re: What position do you want your franchise player to play?
This ones not even a contest. A center who can score off his post game, clean the boards and protect the paint is by far the most valuable. If we're talking about a true franchise type player a center like that just opens the floor up for everyone.
Even Dwight Howard, who has yet to really establish a legit offensive post game has already led the Magic to the Finals. All that without another legit superstar.
I'm a huge Kobe fan but how far did he get without a post presence? D-Wade? DitoComment

Re: What position do you want your franchise player to play?
Center, with maybe a point guard coming in second.
A center is just too invaluable if they can do certain things like protect the basket, rebound and score.
A scorer (SG/SF) can be found somewhat easily and if you don't have anyone protecting your basket, a scorer is pretty meaningless.
Although this discussion probably changes if we're asking "what player would you start your franchise with?". Then I'd say LeBron, Durant, Howard in that order.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

Re: What position do you want your franchise player to play?
Something to consider; only 2 wings in the history of the NBA have won a championship without a dominant big man.
Rick Barry and Michael Jordan. As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"Comment

Re: What position do you want your franchise player to play?
And to add to Jordan’s dominance, he won 6 titles in an era where he had to compete against 3 HOF centers in their primes(Olajuwon, Ewing and Robinson) up-and-coming HOF centers(Shaq & Mourning) and centers that wasn’t HOF material BUT were difference makers on either the offensive or defensive end(Brad Daugerthy, Dikembe Mutombo, Rik Smits). And he did this with average centers on his team. So if you do plan on starting your team with a wing, make sure he’s Jordan-like or you might have issues.I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. Than the one who comes up like an angel and is nothing but a devil. - Malcolm XComment

power forward or center with a very good back-to-the-basket game, high basketball iq, defensive chops and rebounding desire.xbox gt - bmorerep87
