    11/8-11/14 Game Discussion Thread

I don't know who's on TV this week, probably Miami or LA at some point. Whatever, discuss.

I'm starting to think that, unlike what some "experts" predicted, it's not the Miami Heat that have a chance to break 72, but the Lakers.

    Thoughts?

I wouldn't be surprised with the way they've been playing.

Every damn body on the team is playing excellent bball. Everybody.

The new additions have fit in perfectly and their defense has been outstanding.

They made Portland look like a lottery team last night and Portland has always given the Lakers trouble.

I'm really liking what I've been seeing from them so far.

In fairness and this has been talked about by analysts on tv as well. The Lakers have a soft early schedule as they always do. So while I don't really doubt that they can have a great year and continue playing this well, let's not go too nuts based on them running down the paper aisle with both arms extended knocking over all the toilet paper and paper towels. They really don't get into any sort of challenge in their schedule until Christmas when they play the Heat. There's a few tough games sprinkled throughout October, November and early December, but for the most part they've got a cupcake schedule so far. Commence the flaming and overreacting.

Lakers vs Nuggets on Thursday should be a good test and indicator of how good the Lakers are.

So far, the Lakers are putting teams away early, getting disinterested, and then the bench just goes through the motions to end the games.

                      A soft schedule? OK

It's the third week of the regular season, I mean nobody really knows how good anybody is right now.

But if you can't see that LA is definitely the cream of the crop in their conference I don't know what to tell you.

All this without their starting center.

                        Really Ex? Really?

Teams the Lakers are playing (and have since season start) GS 2, Mem 2, Sac 2, Ind 2, Min 2, Tor 2, Hou 2, Phx 2, Was 2, Chi 2, Mil 2, Den, Det, LAC, Uta and Philly. Out of those games through Dec 25, the toughest challenges should come from Denver, Utah and Phoenix. They'll catch the Bulls without Boozer both times and one of them during the Bulls' circus trip so it's a win anyway, Houston without Brooks should be a win for them. Yeah it's three weeks in but we don't need a full cycle of scouting to know they're playing some bottom feeding teams for about the first two months of the season.

That said, I never said they weren't cream of the crop, I was just commenting on the talk of them winning 72 games as opposed to Miami.

LA is definitely the top dog in the West right now and that's not even arguable.

It's also not arguable to say that their schedule is/has been "not strong" to start off either. But they are taking care of their business in that they are blowing out the teams they should be blowing out(Warriors, Grizzlies, Blazers). Didn't see the Raptors game but by looking at the score itself, I'm assuming that it was a close game all throughout.

The problem with the Lakers is their star players are in their early 30's. So they are feeling good early in the season. As the season goes along so will their bodies. And their early games hasnt been that tough. Although they look really in tune. They care about the post season more then the regular season and that record will show.

Mia core are mid 20's guys and they will get a lot better before season end. Unlike LAL they have something to prove in the regular season so they will be shooting for the best record they can.

Number may not tell the whole story ,but they never lie either.

Nobody cares about how many wins LA racks up this year.

The point is to say "well they've had a soft schedule"... it's the third week of the season get out of here with that crap.

But just by seeing how they're operating right now, soft schedule or not it doesn't matter. They have proved they're ready to repeat.
