ill break it down for everyone lol. Im from chicago and i love derrick rose thats my boy but wall is faster. If we are talking about quickness and the stop and start ability then d rose is head and shoulders above everyone. I will say one name and im not surprised no one mentioned him because most ppl never heard of him unless they watched wake forest but ish smith the rookie pg for the rockets is as fast as anyone. The kid is like a lightning bolt in the half court offense or the open floor. He would definately finish in the top 3 if there was ever a race for the fastest in the league.

How can you say Rose is head and shoulders above everyone when Deron and CP3 are faster at stopping/starting and more explosive?

I don't like threads like this because it's just a matter of opinion, you can't really quantify it.

There's a lot of ridiculously fast guys in the NBA, even guys like Telfair and Farmar are blurs. Ultimately it's a pointless discussion because yuo can't convince me a Deron or CP3 are any slower than a Wall, Rose, or Rondo. It's basically a wash.

I would take Deron or CP3 over Wall though

What discussion isnt opinion based?

You wont find a bigger pro CP3 guy on OS than me ,but there is no way he is as fast as Wall end to end.

You might be able to debate their ability to change speeds but there is no way CP3 or Deron are more explosive than Rose. Rose is head,shoulders,legs,and feet ahead of both of those guys when it comes to explosiveness. Rose does things that CP3 and Deron can only dream of doing.

other than dunking, there isn't anything that Rose does "head and shoulders" above the better point guards in the league

I'm asking where you got that thought from?? We are not talking about them as total PG's or who is the better player. We are talking about explosiveness. When it comes to that CP3 and Deron are not anywhere near Rose. When you talk about explovieness of basketball player you are talking about a combo of their speed,quickness,leaping ability,how fast they get off the floor, and dunking is included. Rose is faster and quicker than both of them and those two don't have anywhere near the leaping ability, rise, or dunking ability of Rose. This play he is the very definition of explosive

again, you're not going to convince me that Rose is "faster/quicker" than D-Will or CP3 They're just as every bit as fast, if not faster, with the ball...a couple Deron Williams highlight mixes prove it. Rose isn't more explosive either. CP3 and Deron are the very definition of explosive point guards.

i watch a lot of Jazz/Bulls/Hornets games and there isn't anything Rose can do that the other two can't.

ParisB nobody is saying Rose is as good of a PG as them. I have stated many times, most recently in the PG thread that is up now, that CP3 and Deron are the top two PG's in the game. But FYI it is not explosiveness or speed as the reason why most say they are the two best. It is because they have the complete package. They can shoot, score, pass, rebound, and play D. That is why they are at the top.

If you want to believe they are more explosive than Rose though be my guess. Nobody is saying they don't have any explosion it is that Rose is on another level. But please don't bring some clip of Deron dunks and try to compare them to Rose. He wasn't getting very high over the rim at all. Those was very basic dunks. You need to come better than that if you are trying to convince somebody that he is more explosive than Rose. Again show me either of those guys doing things like this. This first dunk is far beyond anything either of those guys have done

I'm not seeing what dunking and explosiveness has to do with being the fastest end to end. I think Derrick Rose is the most explosive point guard in the league because he is as athletic as any perimeter player in the league. But as far as the PG discussion goes, that works against Derrick Rose. He's essentially a 2 guard playing point.

But that has nothing to do with end to end speed. I watch John Wall, Ty Lawson, and Russell Westbrook, (and even LeBron James), and they all just look a level above most the whole league when it comes to speed.

after watching last nights game between rose/wall, i'd like to change my vote to wall, i'd say second fastest is a tossup between rose/westbrook, CP3 and D-will do what they do because they are polished, not because they are explosive, and to someone who says derrick rose is a 2 guard playing point... well thats ignorant

EDIT: .. almost 100 percent sure thats his JUNIOR year in high school, rose was more explosive as a 16/17 year old than CP3/d-will ever were

ignorant? Rose is essentially Dwyane Wade with less of a shot. I watch him play, and I just don't see point guard tendencies. He's a score first guy. a 6'4, 190 pound guy that attacks the basket looking to score. how about this. he's a point guard with 2 guard tendencies...

either way, who cares how explosive he is in comparison to other point guards? this discussion is about end to end speed. not stop and start speed and explosiveness.


to whoever said Ish Smith, I co-sign that mention. Haven't seen him in the NBA, so don't know if he's leaving guys at this level, but I saw him very often in college and he was Lawson-esque in the ACC.
